On our way to the Spanish Steps

Jurgen likes to walk...and walk fast. As soon as our tour of St. Peter's ended and we said our goodbyes to our local guide, Jurgen gathered up all 51 of us and led us out of Vatican City. He took us along the Tiber River. Even though it was still very sticky and hot the mile and a half walk didn't seem that taxing. Maybe I was finally getting used to the temperature or maybe my complaining mind was kept occupied by all the fascinating sites we passed. Usually a photo of a landmark doesn't do it justice but this photo actually makes the river look much cleaner and more inviting than it really is. I can't believe anyone would eat a fish they caught in this river.
Day Six (Thursday)

As if the regular Italian breakfast wasn't bad enough, our otherwise wonderful hotel didn't have a breakfast room that could accomodate our group. We had to walk two blocks to a tiny strip mall. The empty lots we passed were chock full of empty bottles, cardboard boxes, dog crap and waist high weeds.
