Our host family for the night

Sue - Bee's sister - and her baby pose for a picture in their house in Lao Chai village. Sus and her husband hosted us for the night. Sue is 18 and her baby is about a year old. She was about 5 months pregnant when we met her. She is a tour guide like her sister Bee. Many of the village women have large families and continue to bear children well into their 40's. They get no prenatal care and a doctor only comes to the village twice a week.

We thought it was about time to catch you up on a few side trips we took when we first hit Hanoi way back in July. Wow- that seems like a life-time ago!
