On the way into Shark Bay, we stopped for lunch at Hamelin Pool and had a look at the Stromatolites (world's oldest living fossils) and also a quarry, where the Hamelin Coquina, compacted cockle shells, can be cut into blocks (similar to concrete BESA blocks) and used as walls in building structures - there are a couple of examples in the Shark Bay area but the blocks are now only cut to maintain ... read more
