The gate in front of the hotel is locked all the time. You have to buzz yourself out or buzz the owner or use your keys. It seems very secure.

On Wednesday at noon I boarded the bus at the Caribbean Terminal bound for Limon, Cahita, Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo: all coastal cities, towns and villages on the east side of Costa Rica.
