Chivay Ruins

Defensive tower? Burial plot? Strategic lookout? Maybe all three. This tower was on a hillside overlooking the village of Chivay in the Colca Canyon. From the top there were excellent views of the canyon and the surrounding 5000m plus volcanoes.

One of those crazy days A long and somewhat crazy day began in Puno with an early wake up call to catch the 8.30 bus to Arequipa.
