Tunnel Tradition !

This is a shot of one of the tunnels you will travel through while driving the smokies . I took many a trip with my parents as a little girl to the smokies , almost every year since the age of 5 , I am not sure when the tradition began but i learned at the age of 9 that it was mandatory to honk your horn as you go thru the tunnel! Old time locals say it is to warn oncoming cars in the other direction of your coming into the tunnel , Tourist say it is just a fun sound to hear as it echos very loudly and the kids seem to get a good laugh from it! So .... it became a bit of a tradition as much as a per causionary measure . I have been know to wack my hubby in the head if he goes thru without honking LOL !
