"At the N. end of the Quai Van Meteren, near the first sluice of the docks, is the Pilot Office (Pilotage or Loodswezen), a Gothic brick building, erected by Kennis and Truyman in 1894-96, accommodating also the Ecole de Navigation, the Emigration Office, and a Harbour Office."--Baedeker 1910. Monarch Empress spent the morning sailing through inland waterways in the Netherlands. Shortly after we crossed the Belgian border, the Boudewijnsluis lock carried the vessel into the River Schledt just above Antwerp.
