Allegory of Liberty With the Cap of Liberty
Nieuwe Kerk - New Church. Mausoleum of William the Silent (William of Orange). Allegory of Liberty. She hold a sceptre and the Cap of Liberty. The golden Cap has the inscription Aurea Libertas (Golden Liberty).
As part of Netherland's King's Day celebrations, people will wear orange hats modeled on William's Cap of Liberty. I think in many ways they resemble cowboy hats.
""Liberty is represented with a sceptre, a cap of liberty, and the motto, ‘Je maintiendrai piété et justice' ..."--Baedeker 1910
