Royal Mews. Carriage exhibit area. "The Royal Mews (so called from the 'mews' or coops in which the royal falcons were once kept), or stables and coach-houses (for 40 equipages), entered from Queen's Row, to the S. of the palace, are shown on written application to the Master of the Horse. The magnificent state-carriage, designed by Sir W. Chambers in 1762 and painted by Cipriani (cost 7660£.), is kept here".--Baedeker 1915. DSC_0681p1
London Day 2: A Royal Day Out

Today was the day for the "Royal Day Out". This annual event is the opening of the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace to the general public while the Queen is on holiday in Scotland. Susan had put much time into planning our attending the palace "open house".
