Roman Column

Corinthian votive column in the Roman forum in Zadar. A griffin sits atop the column. It was used as a pillory in the Middle Ages. "Beyond San Simeone is the Piazza della Colonna, on the left side of which rises an antique Corinthian Column, adjoined by the remains of a Roman triumphal arch , excavated in 1908".--Baedeker, 1911. Trogir exhibits strong architectural evidence of its association with the Venetian Republic through the Cathedral of St. Lawrence, the Camerlengo Castle overlooking the harbor and an interesting Italian-style loggia in the cathedral square.
