M/S Naja Arctica at Nuuk harbour. Container ship launched in 1994, 11,612 gt. Operated by Royal Arctic Line. Royal Arctic Line, founded in 1993 by the government of Greenland, is a successor to the Royal Greenland Trading Department. The ships bring food and consumer goods to Greenland from Denmark. Our first port call in Greenland was Nuuk, the capital. Formerly named Godthåb, the city is the largest town in Greenland with a population of about 18,000. Nuuk is also the world's northernmost capital city, just below the Arctic Circle. The city is spread out and the landscape quite austere looking.
