Welcome to Auckland
Just another concrete jungle Our last couple of days in New Zealand were spent hanging around in the City of Auckland - a port city spread out over hundreds of square miles of volcanoes - walking around, eating, shopping, and just generally wasting time. The journey was essentially coming to an end, and we were making the final preparations for the long flight home. Fortunately, we planned to break it up with an eight day stopover in French Polynesia (Tahiti), a place that I had always wanted to go. It's basically a series of small islands, the most popular being the main island of Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora. We visited all three. This is the quintessential paradise beach atmosphere, with turquoise waters, reefs, white sand, palm trees, blistering hot sun, blue skies, and very very quiet. It was the ideal place for a stop on the way back to civilization.
