Happy Mother’s Day!
This is a special day for all mothers and the ship did a nice job of trying to celebrate. Attached are a few pictures of their efforts.
We tried to get up at 7:30, but the previous night had not been smooth, so we were a little sleepy and didn’t get up until 8:30. But we got dressed and had breakfast in the World Marketplace Buffet. We were intending to spend an hour at the Knitter’s Club, but that didn’t happen. There were a couple of special Mother’s Day Brunches around the ship, but we stayed with the usual food to keep from aggravating queasy stomachs.
Our only real appointment today was needing to go through Irish Immigration this morning. Two immigration officials joined the ship yesterday and are checking all the passports before we land. It will save time when the ship arrived in Cobh in a couple of day. However, there was a really long line at 10:00 when we showed up for our scheduled time. We waited in the Piazza for 30 minutes, but the end of the line kept having as many new people arrive as were processed at the front

carving in buffet of the line. While we were there, we were sitting across from the Duty Free Shop where they were selling liquor. They also were selling Pringles. We aren’t sure what the tax on Pringles are, but the Chinns might be interested during their next cruise.
Anyway, David asked if Janet could just sit on a chair in the room and he would get in the line, and we would wait our turn. Instead, they ushered us to the very front and butted us in line ahead of everyone else. Now we are sure there are several hundred people who don’t like us but playing the “crippled grandmother” card worked – especially on Mother’s Day. Now we are officially immigrants into Ireland.
We returned to the cabin about 11:00 and took about a 2-hour nap. For some reason we seem to get tired, especially when the nights are bumpy. So, at 1:00 we got up and went to the International Café for Tuna Fish and Egg Salad sandwiches, and to listen to a piano player who provided good listening music. Janet got a Café Mocha today, and said it was better than the coffee yesterday. She also got a
piece of Red Velvet Cake and a special Mother’s Day cookie (see picture). To find a table, we had to sit in the Good Spirits Lounge, so we thought about Mike and Elizabeth and their times here on the Alaska cruise.
We returned to the cabin again and David went up to the Lido Deck and got a piece of Key Lime Pie and a bowl of Jello, along with a couple of glasses of lemonade. Then it was back to the cabin where we watched a Mother’s Day movie and David did some errands. Then at 5:30 we went down to the dining room for another meal.
Janet got Mother’s Day notes from all three daughters, which was really nice. Apparently, Nala is getting along well with the Brinks, but is still have turf issues with their cat, Pepper.
Tonight, we were at a table for 8, and got to meet some more people. One couple is going on another cruise up the coast of Norway to see the fjords. We told them about our trip last year and wished them as much luck with the weather as we had. Speaking of weather, it has been windy for much of the crossing, but fairly clear skies. Today the sky was cloudy much of the day. During the dinner, the captain made an announcement that we were headed toward a strong storm front. For that reason, he has diverted due north to go around the end of the front because it would be unsafe to plow directly through it. That being the case, we can expect stronger winds and rougher seas than normal for the next couple of days. At this time, he does not expect the detour to affect our arrival time in Cobh Ireland, but he will keep us informed.
For the dinner, Janet had Heirloom Caprese salad and David had Honey & Rum Pineapple and a bowl of French Onion Soup. For the entrée Janet had Rack of Pork and David had Jerk Chicken. We both had the Viennese Apple Strudel. After dinner the Executive Chef came out and asked us how we had each liked our dinners. The waiter and sometime the head waiter have asked, but this is the first time in all our cruises that the head chef has come to our table.
Now we have returned to the cabin and ar watching another movie – “Everything Everywhere All At Once”. Tonight, we will lose another hour off the clock, but this should get us on UK time. Good night, and we hope everyone had a Happy Mother’s Day.
