Geo: 43.7405, 7.42543So let me start with how we found our place to stay. After much searching Steve found the French version of Gumtree or Craigs list and used Google translator to find a few places. We settled on an inexpensive place centrally located and Steve contacted them. Well, when you use a foreign website to find a place you will probably also find that those you contact don't speak English. Our contact put us in touch with her daughter who "speaks" English. I put that in quotes because she doesn't speak it very well but with the aid of the translator we were set. Yet another reason I need to work on my French!! Our flight didn't arrive until late so we didn't anticipate getting to the flat until about 11pm. We called the daughter ... read more

Geo: 17.0817, -61.8077Sunday 05/04/09 St Johns - Antigua Temps Air 28°C Sea 27°C Our berth once again is ideally placed being right alongside the city's main waterfront, straight off the ship to the many bars & cafes. Although it's Sunday the place is already humming as already berthed is the Holland-America Lines ship Maarsdam, and 15 minutes after our arrival the Fred Olsen Lines Booddica arrived and there's another due in later in the day We'd booked a 4 x 4 excursion to the centre of the island, which in view of the number of visitors now deposited on the island seems like a lucky choice. Off we lurched in our LR Defender through the city with our guide pointing out local points of interest, he was a proper laugh, so chilled, no problems man; up ... read more

Geo: -21.105, 55.5249Monday 02/02/09 At Sea, Hot & Sunny, Temps Air 27°C Sea 29°C I'm naming today Digital Disaster Day on account of all the problems I'm having with a ship load of passengers who just haven't got the faintest of what they're doing and the on board staff who are used to working to the lowest common dominator and forgetting that there are some intelligent people on board. It all started 2 weeks ago when I joined up for an advanced photographic editing workshop after 50 minutes I'd learnt nothing new and the topics I wanted to explore still hadn't been gone over with the time still dwindling away I had to leave the course which had already over run it's timeslot by 25 minutes as it was time for evening dinner, I was assured ... read more

Geo: -15.9313, -5.7231Tuesday 20/01/09 A great day hot & sunny with calm seas and temperatures of 28°C what more could I ask for ( don't answer that) Good fun was had by all with the crossing of the line ceremony which of course ended with the captain and most of the staff ending up in the pool. Just after the ceremony as if by some magical decree we were blessed with two large groups of dolphins performing on either side of the ship (the captain said he had ordered them in advance, yeah right), anyway these are the first we seen so far; every day there are shoals of flying fish leaping out of the water on either side of our wake and skimming the water for some considerable distance in the winds before effortlessly shooting ... read more

Geo: 44.8048, 20.4781After a long, suffering over night bus ride, we arrived in Belgrade at 8am . It had a very different feel to it than Bosnia and Croatia. We didn't waste time any time and headed straight to the hostel. It was a bit of shame that we couldn't check in yet. So we hung around the common room which was in the basement- nice and cool too! The guy at reception warned us that today was going to be a very hot day, near 50 degrees. After we cooled nap and had a little snooze on the lounge we ventured out into the heat. It was unbearable! We managed to drag our feet to a little unknown place called McDonalds. It was one of those times where you just want to go somewhere where ... read more
