We start at the night before with a sundown search for the elusive fairy penguins! There was no one else on that stretch of rocks and the penguins were calling to each other which allowed us to spot the nests. We saw three but they were very hard to photograph, see attempt!

Avis rented us a Yaris the next day and we headed via the Yarra wine growing valleys and the Hume highway on the two day journey to Sydney. We saw a part of Australia that many might miss. Some of the towns had a wild west feel, and the roads were long clear and straight with wide vistas over grass and scrub lands. Cattle sheep and Alpaca were easy to spot but the Koalas and kangaroos were only seen on warning signs!

Some highlights;
*The Yarra ranges national park with huge stands of mountain ash creeks filled with exotic ferns like trees
*Discovering the history of "The dog on the tucker box" at Gundagai!?!
*The historic town of Berrima with all it's teashops and coach parties
*Horrendous driving in Sydney
