Well this post has taken much longer than expected to get up here. I'll keep the text short and leave you to the photos. Vava'u was the treat of the trip. There wis this annoying lounge singer belting out tunes on this navy vessel that was trailing the tongan king's boat.

No front door just a cloth flapping in the breeze, pigs running thru the house (not the cute pink pigs either), and generations all crashed out under the trees - admiring the sun from the shade.

We got suckered into going to a fundraiser that turned out to be more like a bad wedding reception

Our host at Lucky's told us that the local library, in fact the only library in tonga was having a fundraiser and would be serving local food and entertain us with local dance. all for the price of $40... sounded like a good idea. Upon arrival we discovered there was not one native tongan in attendance... the library was in fact a library for the eruopean settlers and visitors. The local food was in fact italian and amricana and worse yet the entertainment was a DJ. We relied on our host for a lift back to our accomidation so were stuck at an event that was your nightmare wedding reception scenario. bring on the cheap drinks.....

Man reading paper

His name
Alamoti Tautakitaki of Hunga Vava'u. He was one of my teachers at Tonga College in the early 1980s. Very good man. He is heavy involved in community projects for the outer islands in the Kingdom.
