Our first stop in Wanaka was the tourist Info centre, where as with most places we needed to find out where we could park the camper for the night. Jamesy returned minus this info and armed with a bundle of skydiving leaflets. Little over an hour later we were agreeing to death as a result of this activity and signing our lives away, ahhh... Before we knew it we were suited and booted and taking in some of the most beautiful scenery we have seen so far on the trip - the snow capped Mount Aspiring and Lake Wanaka made for a stunning backdrop! Then all of a sudden I am sitting on the edge of the plane and hurtling into thin air, A-maaaaaazing!! The most surreal feeling ever, how can I expalin what it feels like to to jump out of a plane from 12,000ft other than to say it makes you feel ALIVE!!! However after free falling for 45 seconds I was relieved when the parachute opened! Whooooo what a great way to start the day!!!
We were on a high for the rest of the day as we wondered around Wanaka and took in the sights with
our feet firmly on the ground! Set around Lake Wanaka and tucked in by a stunning mountain backdrop, this is definitly one of our favourite NZ towns. After an adrenaline filled day we were in need of a good munch, so pulled up to a cozy pub overlooking the lake with some delicious fish n' chips! It was then back to a trusty camp ground for the night, where we still couldn't get our heads around the fact we had jumped out of a plane just a couple of hours earlier. Mad!!
After the buzz of the previous day we were keen to keep up our active spirits and see more of Wanaka! So we climbed one of the mountains and once again we were taken away with how beautiful this country is - it just keeps getting better and better!! On completing our hike it was time to go to the highly recommended Cinema Paradiso. Quite possibly the best cinema we have ever been to. A quirky place with comfy couches to watch the film from and fresh from the oven home made cookies served during the interval, plus 2hrs of Robert Pattinson viewing wasn't too shabby!
Our few days in Wanaka have been fun filled with adrenaline and amazing scenery, would definalty come back to this stunning little town - perhaps in 40 years time when we can afford another holiday!!
Still on a high from our skydive we were really looking forward to spending a couple of days in the adrenaline capital of NZ - Queenstown. Although we are fresh out of cash after our skydive so wont be attaching our feet to rope and jumping from bridges or hurling ourselves from anymore planes!! As soon as we arrived we made a beeline for the famous Fergburger! Wow - perhaps the tastiest/biggest burgers we have ever had! There was even a letter on the wall from a doctor which reported that a patient had dislocated his jaw eating one!! Full to the brim we went for a gander around town - again set amongst another stunning backdrop! After taking in the sights we were off to the back of beyond to find somehwhere to park the camper - we eneded up in the middle of a field surrounded by hundreds of sheep! The next morning we awoke in a winter wonderland, the field and
hills completely frozen over, June - really??! Another cheap day was in order so we took ourselves on another hike to overlook Queenstown and were not disappointed with the view from the top - did I mention that this country is stunning?!!!!
