We're doing well - this is our second blog in two days. It's all very well dashing about NZ doing amazing things, but at some point one has to organise domestic stuff and, as Harry says, "domestic stuff is too hard for men". The motel at Wanaka was blessed with a laundry and, as luck would have it, it was a gloriously sunny day so we did our 4th big wash of the trip (just to rassure you that we're keeping ourselves tidy). Whilst watching me hanging out the washing, Harry saw a Tiger Moth flying overhead towards the local airport and he decided it was incumbent upon him to organise manly pursuits. So off we went in search of the Tiger Moth. We had an inkling that if we followed the signs to the airport ... read more

Thursday, November 26th The Bus-Rat was back for a visit last night, but ran off when we got up to see if we could spot him. After breakfast we put on some music and started working on the van with a vengeance. We needed it done by Saturday morning because we still have to clear the rest of the building site and cut up the remaining logs for fire wood. It was a blisteringly hot day, but we made great progress on the van. At tea time Talita baked delicious sweet-corn bread that we enjoyed for lunch. We called it a day around 8pm. We were knackered and our lower backs were killing us from all the bending over. We had a shower, cooked a yummy dinner, had a glass or two of wine and headed ... read more

Well we hit the road early on Thursday for our two day road trip from Queenstown to Picton via the west coast. We had already planned our half way point to be Hokitika and covered 550 km to get there. First of all we stopped into Wanaka to collect our wedding photos only to find that they had already been sent on to the wedding planner in Nelson. We carried on and stopped at Makarora for our packed lunch and then on to Franz Josef Glacier where we did 3 of the walks to get views of the Glacier. One of them was walking the Glacier valley to get as close to it as possible, which wasn’t a tough walk but did get colder and harder to breathe the closer we got. My trusty grey fleece ... read more

we are on our journey back to aukland to return our rental car ( it really has been abused ) we had to use the interior as an inprompt due dryer for our clothes ( one of the dryers at a hostle failed to dry our laundry at all (after dumping 9 bucks into it) Before we left willington, we stopped off at the Zoo to check out all those crazie NZ animals that we thought we'd see!! (not so tho! there were tiger and bear and bird oh my :S ) We then started our drive back to Aukland. We drove for about 5 hours and stoped in at a town Called Waitioto (famous for the enormous caves) Taking some good adivce from our trusty traveling companion (the lonley planet travel book) We stopped off ... read more

You might remember a while back I mentioned that I'd joined a scheme called WWOOFing - Willing Workers On Organic Farms. The scheme allows travellers to go and work on farms in exchange for food, accomodation and farming experience. I joined up and managed to find a nice sounding dairy farm on the West Coast of the South Island in a little village called Whataroa. The job description was ''Milking cows, shearing sheep, some horse riding and general farm chores'' I decided it sounded okay so I set off to give it a go. When I arrived at the farm I met the family and the two other WWOOFers that were working there. There was Pete the farmer, his wife Sonia, their daughter Laura and a couple from the Czech Republic called Ivana & Joseph. First ... read more

Geo: -43.3891, 170.182Wow, Where to begin.Well firstly at the moment i am in Queenstown and its about 1 degree. I have only been here 8 days and i already have too much to tell, so i thought i would break this blog down into parts, where this blog part one is about my week back in Melbourne and my travels so far in New Zealand. It's been so long since my last update, but thats because i hadn't done much since up until Melbourne. Works been going well, we got the Bathurst area completed in 2 weeks and then spent a week in Sydney but my car had problems with the oil pump, so that had to be in the mechanics for 3 days and cost me $1000, so i only ended up working one day of ... read more

After leaving Cromwell, we drove past Lakes Dunstan, Hawea and Wanaka, on our way to the Haast Pass. These are beautiful lakes. Paua decided that Lake Hawea was her favorite of all the ones we had so far seen. After passing the end of Lake Wanaka, the road wound upwards through bush to the Haast Pass. It didn't feel so very high up, due to the towering mountains which now surrounded us, and as we were in the midst of native forest cover. But soon the rivers were now flowing the other way, towards a hidden West Coast, so we had definitely crossed the divide! Having been robbed of a few falls viewings by bad weather on the trip south, we jumped at an opportunity to see Fantail falls in an unplanned stop. After a brief ... read more

Last time we travelled down the W Coast we stopped to see the Franz Joseph and Fox glaciers but it was too cloudy to see the mountains. This time it was too wet and cloudy to see the glaciers either! We compensated by going to watch a short film shot from helicopters showing amazing views of the mountains, glaciers, rivers and lakes. Stopped south of Haast on site at Okuru near the beach - and the sun came out!... read more

After arriving into Picton via Marlborough Sounds we headed across to the West coast of the south island to begin our trip down south. The first stop was the Abel Tasman National Park, which we knew would be different from most NZ national parks, as this one was mainly beaches and coast line (and not mountains!), and at first we thoughts it would be good, but nothing special.....how wrong we were. It turned out to be one of the most stunning and memorable days we had. We started our day from the southern section of the park, and took a water taxi up to the north end, and witnessed Split Apple rock on route, and a small seal colony, plus fantastic views of the green hills rolling striaght into sandy beaches and turqoise water. We spent ... read more
