Wednesay 11th February - Wanaka

Hello,

Set off for Wanaka today, nice and early and with a hangover but as usual Cam our Kiwi driver sorted us out with an early morning walk and good sausage butties in a greasy cafe! It was called Lake Matheson and the most stunning view of the day as you will see by the picture - on a perfectly clear day with no wind you can actually take a picture, turn it upside down and not know which way is right - how cool is that, we were mega impressed. We also visited waterfalls which were pretty awesome too.

Arrived in Wanaka late afternoon where us and our newly extended group to include the M'boro girls checked in to a newly established Base Hostel. Went for some cheap pub group and a night off the beer, my sausage and mash was the most dodgy looking meal I have ebver seen though, good thing that Justine went for the lamb - we know it is more expensive to eat out but seriously a break from pasta was nice - don't get me wrong we love it but not nearly every night for 6 weeks he he... 😊

Got back to find Rodriguez - the lucky man who is sharing the 6 bed dorm with us (well maybe not so lucky depending on how he looks on it!) to find that he had left the window open and light on - it was now home to hundreads of biting flies! So Catherine and Deleane set to work with their flip flops whilst us 3 waited outside and killed ourselves laughing! J then had the (later not so clever) idea of emptying a can of insect repellent around the room - now don't get me wrong, it worked in killing the flies but we also then had to vacate the room for a while as our eyes were streaming, we couldn't breathe or see through the cloud of white air! 😊
