This is the "Extreme Sports" capital of New Zealand. During the winter it's a ski resort and the rest of the time it's where they do all manner of mad stuff. It's here that the first ever commercial Bungy jump opened on the Kawarau Bridge but not where the first Bungy jump took place. That was off the Clifton Suspension Bridge back in blighty, so that's somethiong else we invented.
I however only planning to do one Bungy jump in my life, thought I'd do the biggest one available and put a big ticke against it like a badge of honor. The one I went for is the " Nevis Highwire Bungy", at 134m is the second highest in the world and gives 8 secs of free fall! You jump from a pod suspended between to mountains by cables and just getting to it is frightening enough, let alone jumping out of it. Anyway, it's a toss up which was more scary the Sky jump in Aukland, or this. Neither of which I think I'll be doing again.
