Well in the time since my parents left I have filled my time with more great memories and now am waiting for my Aunty Betty arrive tomorrow morning. I hung out in Christchurch for about a week after they left because I was absolutely knackered and needed some down time. I enjoyed it a lot and met a great girl Dawn from the US who I hung out with for a few days, saw a few movies, went to a free concert on Waitangi Day (a Canada Day equivalent) which was great including an amazing fireworks display. I booked a bus up towards the north part of the south island to a small town called Picton on the Queen Charlotte Sounds between the 2 islands of New Zealand. An absolutely gorgeous area of convoluted coastline making ... read more

Sounds are a bit like Fjords, apparently. That watery bitch, the Sea, invades the land, flooding river valleys, drowning bunnies, and leaving cows stranded. But it's not all bad! We left The Resurgence after another wonderful dinner and breakfast prepared by Claire and Peter. Even met another couple from the U.S. that were staying there so we enjoyed talking with them. The drive to Blenheim via Picton was beautiful especially driving the Queen Charlotte Rd. It was hard not to stop at each pullover and take the amazing views in, but you can just do that for so long before realizing we have to get to our next destination. We arrived at Stonehaven, another great venue, this time acres of vineyards with the majestic mountain range as the backdrop. Our hosts were again so hospitable and this time we met a young German couple who were also touring the South Island. We enjoyed a wine tasting at Allan Scott Vineyards down the road in the ... read more

So now it's up into the North Island... I decided on the 8am ferry from Picton to Wellington which needed a 7am check-in and a 6am rise - gutted! Well I did have to make sure I was awake to tackle getting on board the ferry in the little blue mobile! (yup I haven't given my car a name yet). Just my luck that I was on the top deck! All that sorted and it was off through the Queen Charlotte Sound and the gorgeous views of the South Island left behind with the sun rising to a beautiful and still day... ... read more
