After driving from Greymouth ( possibly THE most depressing town on earth)! We headed across the South Island to Christchurch via Aurther's Pass - A very scenic drive. Only got to stay two nights in Christchurch and hired a car to drive the two and a half hours up to Kaikoura to go whale watching.
Th drive was worth it as we got to see 2 sperm whales on the surface and lots and lots of seal lions - unfortunately no dolphins but we think they are ficticious...like the kangaroos...
