Dolphins in Kaikora
There were bloody hundreds of them, it was great, and if you swim in circles and make stupid noises, they follow you round and laugh, brilliant Well the time has come for me to leave New Zealand, sad day I know, but everyone I have met has already gone, or headed back north to find work so I guess its time for me to do one too.
I fly to Sydney tomorrow afternoon (thursday) for some surfing, guitar playing and clubbing, but in the mean time I'll let you know a bit about the stuff I've done since Queenstown.
Milford Sound, it turns out that Milford sound was a massive area of waterfalls, thousands of them everywhere you look, which was nice - there'll be more pictures of that to come, although I did have to sacrfice my digital camera to one waterfall, the big wet b##tard! Its really cool on the boat when it reaches the sea and turns round, there were HUGE waves coming at the boat, and it was raining so much that we couldn't actually stand on the back of the deck, nearly fell in a few times, easily the best thing about the boat trip!
Next we headed to Invercargill, made famous by the new Anthony Hopkins film The Worlds Fastest Indian - whats that? You havent seen it
Seals in Milford Sound
It was really foggy in Milford Sound, but it cleared at the mouth of the river, and we got to see loads of seals laying about and jumping in the sea yet, well... go to the cinema then. The town doesnt have much, but there was a "water park" aka swiming pool with one slide, which was quite fun really, a bunch of 20 - 31 year olds on a kids slide, generally scaring the hell out of them, and injuring ourselves in the process. Cool hot tub too. Ive spent a lot of my time in hot tubs in the last few weeks, its a hard life!
Next was Dunedin and the Speights Brewery tour. Now I dont actually remember much after that, except I got about 20 or so of the free tasters instead of the 6 they tried to give out - but when a brewery lets me pour my own beers, what do they expect! I woke up after about 3 hours sleep as the bus was leaving without me - so I ran and caught it, and sat there feeling like hell for the whole day while we drove up to Christchurch. I could'nt physically walk up it, but I did see the worlds steepest road from a distance. It was indeed very steep.
Ive spent the last couple of weeks between Kaikoura and
Queenstown
A few more pics for you, heres me looking really scared with Tom (Ireland), Kat(Ireland), Deborah(Holland) and someone else, I cant remember her name, all out in Queenstown somewhere Christchurch, chilling out in hostels and haveing a huge detox, I even bought another guitar (thats 3 now) but I'm not doing too bad at playing this one, I should be an expert by the time I leave Oz, I plan on doing a lot of sitting on beaches when I get to Byron Bay! I could be the new Jack Johnson... maybe not.
I also went Dolphin swimming in Kaikoura, it was amazing, there was about 300 or so swimming about, and I managed to get a couple of them to stop and swim around with me, you have to swim in circles and make noises to get their attention, and they make a laughing noise too which is pretty funny, though some how I dont think they're really laughing, that or they're saying,
"Look at this stupid human, waking up at 4.30am to get in ice cold water with us, if all humans are as stupid as him, soon we will take over the world!"
Yeah its probably that one. They look right into your eyes when they do it too, its very surreal, at one point i couldn't actually see water in any direction as
Tom Later That Night
This is how drunk you can get in Queenstown on a quiet night... there were so many dolphins.
Anyway, not much else has gone on, the money is running low so I cant really do many expensive activities, but I've had a great time here, definately heading back in a year or so to work, I've met a few locals, and everyones really cool, all thats left now is to get on the plane to Oz and start all over again!
I think I'm about half way through the trip now, so not long till I see everyone, unless I get eaten by a shark next week... shit I hadnt thought of that!
Take care everyone, gimme an email to let me know how everyones doing, and any random gossip shit that I havent heard yet. Is the new series of Lost on there yet too? I saw one tonight, it was brilliant.
PS. If you look back at the previous blog, there is now a picture of all us that got the Mohawks in Barrytown, you should be able to make out my head of you view the full size picture!
