I had bought tickets for Ron, Paula and me to attend the Marlborough Wine Festival. It is held in Blenheim in a valley that more than doubles the size of Napa in CA and is wall to wall with vineyards. The festival draws an international crowd and sells out every year. Unlike the Jazzfest I have attend in New Orleans, this was a much more gentile affair. Large numbers of women attending, of every age, were decked out in summer frocks. Instead of the foam beer can caddie I am used to we were given a plastic holder in a cord with a wine glass in it. So we strolled from booth to booth sampling ($2 or $3). Not being much of a white wine drinker I focused on the Pinot Noir. As the day went on I did switch the Sauvignon Blanc, which is the premier wine of this region and has won international acclaim. An excellent decision on my part. There were food booths interspersed to provide various goodies to soak up the vino. Having arrived at
around 11:00 AM we were ready to depart for home around 4:30 having lost count of the samplings. Back at Ron and Paula’s I was treated to grilled lamb chops and found bedtime around 9:00.
