Same Shit - Different Topic I drove into Raglan, settled down at the bar at a hotel and soon after Katka and her surfer friend Noah joined me. They gave me a quick update on the town. It is about SURFING. Apparently I had stumbled into one of the premier surf spots in the world. A Swedish guy I met at the backpacker place I stayed at, told me that he had been dreaming about that place for 15 year... Read Full Entry

Lake Rotoroa from my B&B. Sitting on the deck I did get a few whiffs of rotten eggs from the thermal pools around the corner, but I got used to it surprisingly quickly.

And then it was just fun. A massive bombardment of the senses but surprisingly relaxing.

It behaved quite nicely and sent out puffs to about 10 meters. Far from the maximum of 25-30 meters that it occasionally does.

This mud-pool sent out boiling squirts up to ten centimeters or so and I noticed that everybody - young and old - started giggling at the sight. There is something fundamentally funny about it and the sounds that it makes.

The Maori war dance in a very touristy version, but fun nevertheless. There were four men, but it was really just this guy who really went for it.

I really like that town. I actually wouldn't mind living there (despite the winds).

Hi! Just stumbled across this while trying to find a jpeg of Marianne Muggeridge's painting. Anyway, I haven't been quite able to work out where your photo is taken from, but you're up a bit too high. I'm not even sure if you're still in Wellington so this may be irrelevant, but my guess is that it's painted from the Claremont Grove area, where I used to live. This: http://i44.tinypic.com/34etgrk.jpg was the view from our backyard, and it /almost/ matches. Spent a while walking up and down different steps in the street trying to find the right perspective, but my guess is it was either done from a building that doesn't exist anymore (was in the 80s anyway I think) or from a back section off Majoribanks or Brougham Streets. Anyway, just thought I'd say hi! http://www.niceties.co.nz
