Apologies for our lack of blogs over the past week or so - we thought you deserved a rest! Hope you all had a good Easter, we were thinking of you and roast dinners!
Rotorua was rather stinky due to the amount of thermal activity there. Lots of geysers, steam vents and bubbling mud pools.
On our first night there we went to a Maori night in a recreated Maori village where they demonstrated their skills, dancing..... and the food cooked in the underground oven. Along with many other backpackers we took full advantage of the hangi (feast!) and had a good old feed!
We also had our first experience of Luging - great fun. Luges are like a 3 wheeled go cart with handlebars! we did this on the mountain which overlooks Lake Rotorua, so we also got to go on a gondola to experience the views (which you'll eventually see when we upload pics!)
After Rotorua we had two nights in Taupo which has a lake larger than Singapore (factoid!)
Taupo was beautiful from the sky and from the ground, and also from our Kayaks. During our trip down the river we were shown
a thermal waterfalls (hot springs) which were boiling.
Team "Flashpacker 7" took 2nd prize (there wasn't actually a prize though 😞 ) at the pub quiz in Mulligan's Irish bar. Wahoo! We have continued to travel with some of these taupo peeps over the past week or so.
more blogs to come!
