I was on blogging duty this morning whilst the C.O. went to view the local beauty spot Ta Mata Peak. She thought she was in for a gentle ramble but it turned out to be hard work and in a temperature of 30 degrees C she found raised a healthy glow. She was most put out as she struggled up the slopes to be overtaken by mad Kiwis running past her. All this whilst I was toiling away with my work on a shaded verandah. We had lunch at a cafe named Birdwoods in a beautiful tranquil garden setting a little way out of Havelock North. The grounds had many statues and art works in it and whilst I was tempted the C. O. decided that we did not have pod room for it. We adjourned ... read more

24/1/18 Havelock North Brian and Lynda owned and ran a successful motor repair, maintenance and sales business. They sold the business just over a year ago and retired. During his working life, Brian indulged his interest and collected elderly cars. He has a collection of about 8 cars that he stores locally and occasionly gets out for a run. One of the cars is a '57 "chevie" that Brian got out to run 6 of us out to some wineries. The party consisted of Brian and Lynda Tasker, Dave and Rita Wood, the C.O. and blogger. The car is immaculate and creates a lot of interest wherever it goes. The car is very comfortable and cossetted us along the road. It was glorious weather and we had the a/c (car windows) fully open. Our first stop ... read more

Plan today is to have a mooch around Havelock North town centre, then play golf with a family roast meal at Brian and Lynda's in the evening. We went into town. We firstly went into the Supermarket and stocked up on cheese cutters? and wine. Annie mooches off with Lynda to their shops the C. O. looking for bargains to supplement her kit - probably new shoes and I went in another direction to get my bearings. I was caught by Helen Tasker reconnoitering a local pub called the Rose and Shamrock. Met up with the C.O. and returned home to prepare for golf. Shock, horror the weather in the afternoon turned and there was a thunderstorm with heavy rain. The golf plans are on hold. Had a very pleasant evening meal of delicious roast pork ... read more

The countdown to our next 'trip of a lifetime' begins. The T's (Toheriri's) and G's (Greig's) are off to explore a bit more of the world. Not til the end of May, but soon enough to start preparing to make sure that all of our Whanau and friends are kept up to date with what we are all doing. So, this blog will keep everyone up without having to listen to us going on about it upon our return. Hopefully we will be a bit more organised than last time and not leave everything to the last minute. Keep your eyes open and your ears peeled for our adventures.... read more

... read more

Now we mentioned Hastings earlier and here is the detail. We decided to travel on from Napier to Havelock North and on to Hastings. Havelock North was a pleasant village with nice cafe's. So we stopped and had a late breakfast. This was truely a plate full of the the usual full English which was so enjoyed all we had for the rest of the day was a snack or two. It was at Havelock North (not sure if there is a south) that we decided to go to the top of a mountain called Te Mata, driving to the top again on a narrow roadway. The views from the top were well worth the trip. Views extended across the Hawks Bay and valleys beyond, magnificent. From here we took the road to Ocean Beach as ... read more
