On the top of Mt. Victoria
Day two…. amazing, or as they say here bloody fantastic. I’m already starting to pick up on some of their little sayings. My favorite so far has been jandals…flip-flops! Jelly sandals. So today we went to a small island called Devonport, not to be confused with Davenport in Santa Cruz. It is a small little hippy island with two dormant volcanoes. We climbed to the top of Mt. Victoria. The New Zealand government actually filled in the crater of this volcano in the 1880’s and created bunkers because they were afraid of a Russian invasion…talk about living in terror. The hike was amazing; the views form the top…unbelievable. It was such a contrast from the busy, very tall, very loud Auckland, quiet, peaceful, mellow. I mean Auckland is not crazy compared to San Fran but still. We had a picnic at the top and just stared into the distance forever. And then we climbed down and tried to find the beach, we made a few wrong turns, went into an ice cream shop - amazing boysenberry ice cream! They told us where to go. The beach was so cute, plus me on the beach…heaven!! It was getting late so we called

it a day went back into town caught the ferry back and walked all they way back home. And this walk just keeps getting longer and longer! Auckland beats Santa Cruz on hills any day.
Took the coldest shower of my life went to dinner and then the fun begin. Tonight was the 10th anniversary of the Sky Tower so they put on a fireworks show. 5 of us girls went out, got some good NZ beer and headed to Albert Park. Lying in the grass watching the sunset, dinking our beers, telling silly stories it was really fun. The firework show was…okay. I mean it good but it only lasted about 10min and we had been in the park for 1.5hrs or so. But we did meet these crazy old men who kept telling us about karaoke in the sky tower and how we HAD TO GO, and they kept singing love shack and explaining that was the best song ever. They were quite cute old men.
The night ended with sitting in the stairwell singing Bob Dylan songs with some EAP kids. Quite a nice day over all.
Till next time
