It's been a while since i've had time in an internet cafe to update this although hopefully now the flying part is over i'll have slightly more time to spend in internet cafes keeping in touch with everyone back home! I've had an amazing four days in Hong Kong, it is an absolute sensory overload wandering around there, so different from anywhere else i've ever been!
We landed at 8am after a 13 hour flight and a cumulative 4 hours sleep in 2 nights feeling more than slightly knackered so spent the day aimlessly traipsing around Kowloon on the verge of collapse. After a 15 hour sleep marathon in our windowless hostel room we were pretty much over the jet lag and could appreciate everything sooo much more!
We did all the main tourist sites around Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, going up the Peak mountain on a tram that is more like a rollorcoaster for breathtaking views, going up an 800m long 'commuter escalator' which was bizarre, seeing temples, heaving street markets, enough neon signage to last a lifetime and a multitude of other stuff! Particularlly cool was the random street in Soho (yep this place turns up everywhere!) where we saw a chinese movie scene being shot and may even have been in the background (what a claim to fame!) also the day we went to Lantau island and went to see a giant Buddha statue at the Po Lin Monastery on the top of a mountain, it was very cool although up a lot of steps!
Believe it or not I got well into the noodle soup and chinese cuisine as we ate (with chopsticks i might add) every night for about $30 which is about 2 pounds! Hong Kong overall was ridiculously cheap to live in and i picked up some bargains for stuff like headphones, sunhats and necklaces that i had forgotten/lost when i packed!

We flew out of Hong Kong at some unearthly hour, spent a night in Melbourne and flew into Auckland on the 11th nov, 13 hours ahead of you back home (which i didn't think was possible but its something to do with changing the clocks for summertime!) We've spent the last few days plotting our escape from auckland which is a lovely city nbut so international/cosmopolitan etc that it could be anywhere and we can't wait to get out into the countryside! So, we've bought a car (actually are in the process of buying it) so are now planning a road trip! Yay!

Anyway, enough for now! i'll update on our first week in Auckland soon, feel free to leave me comments or just send me an email so i feel loved! xxx
