Jughead Update I have been reliably informed by my brother that my “Jughead” research (in my 2nd to last blog) is a little dated. Apparently, it was remiss of me to neglect the phrase “Areet clacker” (Transl. how you doing mate? - which is the more contemporary substitute for “areet yuth”: Transl. How you doing youth? - although it could be that my brother is no longer to be considered a yuth, and in fact more of a clacker). I’m going with that theory. That probably also explains the other phrase I apparently excluded - “Me n mar messees” (the wife and I) which is perhaps more a reflection of the stage at which we are in life, rather than any great jughead vocabulary revolution. Let us move on… Auckland On Good Friday, after my meeting ... read more

Hello Everyone… I got in a couple of days ago and our place looks fantastic… thanks to Andy. She even has a picture of my family framed so that I may feel at home. The jet lag drained me and sleeping was even more difficult that usual. There are a few people we would like to keep in contact with while we are in NZ. Instead of sending out a crass mass email… we thought we would set up a site, and if you are interested, you can visit. This way you won’t have to keep deleting our mass email along with all the other mass emails for penis enlargement pills and credit improvement… wait, you all get those right? Cheers Joey and Andy ... read more

YAY! Is all I have to say at this time.. The visa FINNAAALLYY got accepted and I bought my ticket last night.. Excited? Why yes I am!! I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would be travelling over to the UK and many parts of Europe, so its all sort of still becoming a reality.. but yah, I don’t really know what to write in here cos I still be in NZ - Aukalani, and don’t head out for another 2 months yet.. I leave our beautiful land of Aotearoa on the 23rd of April and head to Brisbane to stay with me family for a few days and surprise my dad for his 50th birthday. After Brisbane I head out from there to Dubai on the 26th and then from Dubai to Manchester ... read more

Friday morning myself, Laura and Yvette (two Spanish girls that live at the hostel on Waiheke) left Waiheke for the weekend and headed to Piha, a small surf town about an hour west of Auckland on the Tasman sea. We rented a car and took our shitty map and headed for Piha. First let me introduce and navigators; Laura who speaks zero English and Yvette who speaks very little English. Second they drive on the left onside of the road in New Zealand. In hindsight I should have looked at the map before leaving Auckland, but it was much more exciting letting two girls who can't read English lead the way. We drove about an hour north which didn't make a lot of sense since Piha is west of Auckland, at this point directions to turn ... read more

Hope everyone has had chance to look at the pictures. I have more, but it takes a while to upload 5 megapixel pictures onto the web, so I could only put up seven. We got our ride back to Auckland yesterday. It was just Clint, me, and our drive, Otto. If anyone has ever seen the simpsons and knows who Otto the school bus driver is, this guy is him. We had a great time in the Bay of Islands. We camped out right on the beach for two days, but then Clint got sick so we had to go back to staying in a hostel. Tonight, we go to see the New Zealand All Blacks versus Fiji in rugby. We have pretty good seats, about midfield. Then, we wake up early tomorrow morning and catch ... read more

Hi All, Here are some photos from basically my backyard at the moment. I am staying with friends Yasmine and Tony in Karekare Beach about 60 minutes west of Auckland. A 3-5 minute walk from their door through some wilderness gets us to the beach you see below. I've been here about 3 days now. We've been into Auckland proper once and to the Corbane Estate Arts Center a couple of times where Tony is helping organize the music acts for a community festival being held there tomorrow (www.wayoutwestfest.org.nz). Tonight we will be heading into town for a little clubbing and to meet up with some people I've been emailing with prior to my arrival. Still a lot of lounging on my part. I will be working at the festival tomorrow so I am not totally ... read more

Pihi is one of the closest beaches to the house and the one we went to most of the time. Its where i attempted to surf, but also spent a few days out swimming in the 'blue pool', chiiling out on the beach or watching the surf comps held there. Had a few meals at the life savers club (which i almost got thrown out of because i wasnt wearing a top that covered my shoulders), had a few BBQ at Neil and Paulas friends Mark and Gill or at Paul and Kirstens. One good day in piha was spent at Neils friend Peej's stag doo at the bowling club. I beat my uncle Neil in a close first game then got beaten by Peej (had to let him win as it was his doo!!!honest)... read more

When I got to New Zealand Neil was looking at getting a boat with his mate Mark. After looking around a few second hand ones the drafted in another buyer, Neils mate John, they bought a new fishing boat!! Went out around Auckland harbour and out to a few islands in the Hauraki Gulf. Took a few day trips out to islands and went sea biscuiting, fishing and wakeboarding.... read more
