Well it’s been a while since my last update. I must beg off given that I haven’t been home for a weekend in more than two months. But to allay your fears, yes, I am alive and kicking.
The following is a brief synopsis.
The last three weeks I’ve been working towards dive certification. I am now licensed to dive to 18m - over 55 feet down. It’s an incredible feeling moving though a fluid like you’re weightless, I had to relearn how to move when gravity is seemingly not working against you. We’re going up to Goat Island next week to do some recreation dives, perhaps I’ll have photos from this trip.
Whips and Spurs - social and fashion event (I love my polka dot tie) masked as a horse race. Lucky day at the track…. my wagers paid out handsomely. The music continued long after the race and once they kick us out for closing time we moved downtown. I got a ride with a friend’s dad that I met at the race - a race horse owner and broker! I’d never heard of the Spy Bar, which is located in the Viaduct. I was

1100 race crazed fashion freaks. surprised to see a Pacific Islander the size of the Bear’s offensive line guarding the entry with a small clipboard. We were not on the list, or so we were told. Will made a call to someone on the inside and we were reluctantly ushered in. Turns out this is an expensive bar for wealthy coke heads, particularly Russians and eastern Europeans. Needless to say I won’t be heading back there anytime soon.
Two Friday’s ago the Social Club at work for our after work drink night put on a scavenger hunt in Newmarket (the 23rd Street of Auckland). My friends from the environmental team wanted to go as Captain Planet and the Planateers (no surprise here - greenies) a environmental cartoon from the early ‘90s. I was nominated to go as captain planet - the most unappealing costume of the group. I had to run around in blue tights, green wig, and blue face (oh and red underwear). The scavenger hunt and costume stunt paid mighty dividends. We came home with plenty of after work entertainment.
Back in February I ran in a 24 hour relay race. All said I did 52 km or more than a
full marathon distance. The race was a fundraising event for cancer research. Our team did fairly well generating some big donations.
Final group of photos is from the Sculpture on the Gulf art show I walked more than two months ago.
Too much to cover here and don’t feel the need to bore you with the details.
Keep smiling and give me a thought every time you face SW or NE, I’m on that spec of land at the bottom of the globe or as many kiwi’s like to think of it at the top of the globe.
Autumn settles over me while I think of spring.
