9th November.
Had a great night's sleep, a the fresh air is certainly making me sleepy.
I took advantage of all the facilities at my new campsite once I had breakfast. Long HOT shower and used the launderette. Finished my book whilst waiting for my washing to finish and went for a little walk by the shore when the drier was on.
I left camp about 11.15 and headed to Brick Bay. The journey there reminded me that driving in New Zealand can be a bit like riding a roller coaster; all up and down, and twists and turns.
The views en route were stunning, but far too dangerous to pull over to take a picture, so you will have to take my word for it.
Brick Bay is so called because bricks were made from the local clay in the 1840’s, the beach is littered with bricks from this period.
The bay is very secluded, I would happily stayed for longer if I had not already finished my book. I am a bit apprehensive about whether my van will make it back up the very steep road out of the bay. I select
2nd gear and hope.
I make it back to civilisation and see a sign for a sculpture park which has a restaurant on site. Just the place for lunch I thought. They were very busy and suggested doing the walk and then having a bite to eat after. It was already 1.30 so I gave it a miss as my blood sugars were lower this morning, I head of in search of less busy lunch at a local store.
I had itchy eyes yesterday when I got to the camp and I put it down to sunscreen in my eye, but I had been extra careful today and my eyes were so painful and watery. They were so bad that I kept having to pull over. All the signs of hayfever. Not sure what was more important at this point, food or a chemist.
Found food first, after stopping three times. Once someone stopped to see if I was ok, yes I said despite tears streaming down my face.
The lady at the shop told me where the pharmacy was. I got to the pharmacy and before I said anything the lady at the counter said
“ You will be wanting something for your allergy then". Yes I said through the tears and dribbling nose.
I took one straight away and had a wander around town until it kicked it. I got a couple of books and back to camp.
You know the routine, tea and a book. I also booked another night at the camp site, to try and make up for the fact that I had not done anything today.
Now for food. I was quite impressed with my creation, pasta, bacon , peas and Philadelphia cheese to make a sauce. Pretty damn good. Once I washed up I intended to sit in the TV lounge with a cuppa; then I remembered that I had to do battle and put the duvet back in its cover.
Got back to the van and it started to rain, so I thought I would wait for it to stop and climbed in the van with cuppa.
The rain got worse. You know how hard it his to put a duvet cover on a double duvet on your own. Imagine my struggles at trying to do in the confines of a camper van. Eventually my struggle was over, it was still raining and getting dark. I did the only sensible thing to do at this point, make up the bed, lock the doors and climb under the duvet.
