This is my first entry though I have traveled for many months. I sit on the sand as the waves crash at my feet and dream of the somewhat sumptuous scene that I faced the day before. I have been doing odd jobs here. I worked a therapist, a condominium attendant and a thief. The days are starting to blur together now and I figure If I start this blog I will gain some clarity on my life as when I think about back I am not sure what is real and what is made up. I have been drinking a lot and the drugs here are more than helpful at destroying any coherence I may have left. Atiu is in the Cook Islands, a short flight from Raratonga and although it’s the third biggest island in the Cooks, it has only about 500 people (and declining) living there in a collection of 4 or 5 villages at it’s centre. We caught the weekly flight from Aitutaki in this tiny airplane which held ten passengers, the pilot doubled up as the air stewardess, and we had a fantastic view of the cockpit. Bouncing our way through the air with the vast Pacific Ocean below us we landed at the airport and were greeted by a large group of smiles. We had nowhere booked to stay because of telephone problems, however after a bit of ... read more
