So it's finally here, our big adventure to Europe.
After a relatively civilised flight time we are off to Singapore for a stopover before heading onto London. 8 hours on a plane, plane is on time and we are off.
Amelia's excited for the plane as usual but 'I want to sit next to Marie' happens, don't think she minded though 😉 and as trips go it's uneventful and the 8hrs pass really quite quickly.
Landing at Singapore I'm hoping my bronchitis (the after effect of my pneumonia) might be helped by the humidity . . .
As we are waiting to go through immigration we get talking to 3 ladies, (daughter, mum and a friend) who are on their way to Africa. Mum has never been overseas before and Africa as a first holiday in your 60's is definitely one way to start the travels. The daughter has been to Africa a few times and they were heading to see the mountain gorillas. That would be amazing. Lovely people and the time passed by before we knew it.
Found the right train and we were heading to the Little India area of Singapore and our
hotel for the night. After amusing ourselves people watching on the train, it seems my body decided a coughing fit was in order and quite spectacularly! Three army boys in uniform are on the train opposite us and one offers me a plastic bag as he thought I was going to be sick. Well I'm told that by Phil as I was pretty much out of it at that point 😞 Lovely gesture, not so sure that would have happened at home!
Off the train we arrive at our hotel, Rucksack Inn. You can't miss the outside, it is designed to look like an old picture theatre. Easy and quick check in before heading to our rooms to dump bags and head out for some tea. The rooms were simple, couldn't say flash by any standard (the toilet seat lid came off!) but adequate for a few hours overnight stay. Can't believe I didn't take any photos of the hotel, it really had all the old school movie theatre look.
Headed out to Little India and ran into the 'girls' we met at the airport. Small world sometimes. It was still light at that point and we came
across elephants on either side of the intersection. Gorgeous and looked like they would light up at night.
Little India appeared to be a road with clothing and jewellery stores predominantly on both sides of the road. I have no idea how they make any money, literally jewellery store next to jewellery store.
Found an Indian (obviously 😉 ) place for dinner and after naan, rice and a curry Phil had asked to be milder (hate to imagine what it was like at normal heat) we headed back to our hotel.
The elephants were lit up by this stage and looked amazing.
It was then time for an early night, 13.5hr flight to go tomorrow.
