Hello everyone! Gem and Bef here! How's it all going? Good? Okay!
Well we've had a mad week! It all started with a flight from Heathrow last Monday! A late plane leaving from England resulted in an epic mad dash through Qatar airport to catch a connecting flight. How we managed to get on that plane still lies as a bit of a miracle to us. We had to run from one plane to another through about a miles length of the airport and we did it with ten minutes to spare. Whilst on the first flight we were deciding on alternatives, where we could stay and what we were gonna do! All seems rather unnecessary now!
Anyway, we arrived in Singapore in the afternoon where we fought the palm sweltering heat, the public transport whilst carrying our 15kg backpacks! This once again did not come without a bit of drama. Apparently we can't understand simple instructions with the tanoy telling us to go right. We of course were facing the other way and ending up going our right instead of the trains right. Funnily enough, we were the only ones to get off this side and I presume
stood out with our big bags on our back. The locals told us the city line was the other side. We therefore ran through the train back to the other platform. It was all very James Bond like! I would say the train was moving but I don't wanna push it! Singapore was so different to the rest of Asia that we have seen. So clean and so nice and the people were friendly.
First stop that night was raffles! We can honestly say that we've never experienced jet lag quite like it! I (gem) put my head in my arms on the table and started to fall asleep in raffles (pretty posh place!). So we decided to go to bed and we would properly explore the next day! This was 8pm! We then awoke at 2am ready to start the day all very confused! We sat up talking for about two hours and funnily enough we didn't make friends that night!
The rest of our Singapore experience was filled with river cruises, marina bay sands, a lot of walking, visiting where my grandparents once lived and generally wandering. We tried a Singapore sling at raffles on our last night,
which I would gladly miss next time! It is a must do but £17 and 2000 peanuts later we left slightly disappointed with how nice it didn't taste! We went up to the top of the very famous cricket stumps. This is a definite must do in Singapore! The views were amazing! However, there was nowhere to sit and we had a well needed but short lived rest in the shade on the steps. This was until the guard came and told us we couldn't sit down on the steps and to read the signs where it said right next to us 'DO NOT SIT ON THE STEPS!' Woops!
Onwards to our next stop.... PERTH- Australia!! Oh no no no it was not that simple! We had yet more trouble at the airport! After queuing 1hr and a half in a queue to check in, we got to the desk to find out that our ticket was not valid and sent to the help desk! We were then told that we had an outstanding bill that STA had not done for us. Anyway, all sorted!! So back to the queue we go... Until Scott came over. Now let me tell you
about Scott. Scott works at Changi airport, he is Scottish and he spoke to us when we first got there. So he comes over and asks what we are still doing there! We then explain. Beth is angry and Gem is nearly crying. Time is ticking. He takes pity and bumps us up to business class! Boom. We love Scott and a big shout out to him!
Since coming to Perth we have been staying with the lovely Sarah and Philip and their sons Harri and Josiah! It's been ace so far! The temperature is far more manageable unless that's just the fact we have a pool to jump into if it gets unbearable! On our first night here, we went to a pub and chilled with the kangaroos. The size they reach is crazy and the biggest babe of them all was called Gary! Shout out to Gary the kanga too! The landlord could tell we weren't locals so got us food to feed the kangaroos. This was so surreal with kangaroos flocking at our feet. We felt very loved despite the fact they were using us for the food! Whilst holding the food in our hands, we each
had a parrot land on our hands to steal the oats!
We then went on to watch a film in an outdoor cinema under the stars. A very Aussie experience with the sound of birds and crickets whilst the sun set!
We have managed to prise ourselves away from the pool too and been for local walks and into the city! On our bush walk we saw a red back spider and huntsman spider... And WE SURVIVED IT!! But I will be quite happy not to see them again! Tomorrow we are going to Fremantle prison (hopefully they won't keep Beth) and the beach for a snorkelling adventure. We are also hoping to have a BBQ at kings park and go to penguin island! Then we fly to Adelaide on Saturday! From Adelaide we head to the red centre for our Alice springs and Ayres rock tour! Probably for some more spider excitement!
Hope everyone's well! If it makes you feel better we have had a terrible time so far 😉 stay tuned for the next one!!
Love Gem and Beth xxxx
