Gracetown girls
Kym's cousins in Dunsborough After Esperance we had intended to call through and see my friend Sean and his family on their new farm at Ongerup, however a phone call to Kym’s cousins in Margaret River revealed an opportunity to catch up with a lot of them at a birthday so we drove straight to Marg’s. The Sunday was the birthday of young Eva, daughter of Kym’s cousin Lee and his wife Tamson. It was great to catch up with them as well as cousins Sam and Nat and Kym’s Uncle Pete and Aunty Cheryl. We had not seen this section of Kym’s family since Sam and Nat’s wedding 7 years ago!
After the Sunday we spent a week and Kym’s Uncle George’s holiday house in Dunsborough - we were feeling quite lucky and privileged at this point as this was a really nice house in a really nice location in the heart of Dunsborough. It was a fantastic opportunity for Kym and I to relax and sleep in a real bed for a change! It also gave us a place to have Kym’s cousin’s visit with their beautiful girls.
We still wanted to catch up with Sean so we headed back Southeast via a
Alexander Bridge
Campground south of Margeret River. stopover at Denmark with Sam and Nat, before driving through the Porongurup’s to Ongerup and Sean’s farm. It was typical wheat farming country, very dry this time of year and quite isolated but it was really good to see Sean and Deb and their two boys.
Next stop was back to Busselton to see Kym’s Nana Von and Uncle Gary and Aunt Liz, Liz cooked us a great feed and they all came for lunch at the van park we were staying in the next day.
Then we went North for a night with Barb in her very nice new unit in Mandurah. Kym’s cousin Katrina and her man Matt took us for a cruise through the new canals to one of their friends for dinner, Matt was also able to help us out with a place to put our dogs (his apartment!!) and a place for our car & camper (his other apartments car park!!). If it wasn’t for Matt we would not be able to stop in Mandurah as units are very difficult places to stay with dogs and very tall cars - Thanks Matt & Katrina!
Perth was the next port of call, with 3 weeks to
Sean and I
Discussing his farm at Ongerup catch up with all friends and family we could. The camper was set up in Kym’s sister Jodie’s front yard, which would be our base for some of our time there. Our first priority was to visit Kym’s Nan and Pop Holmes for a delicious lunch and to see their new apartment in Riverton.
Then we were full on into making preparations for Kym’s 40th birthday. Barb and Jodie worked tirelessly cooking loads of nibbles and setting decorations while Al made the gardens and backyard and pool area more than respectable! Kym’s niece Chloe and nephew Jack also helped out on the night serving food and manning the drinks station. The night was a huge success with a lot of people coming from the invites sent out by Kym’s friend Andrea weeks before we even arrived. Kym really enjoyed catching up with family and some friends not seen for years and ended with Kym and Jodie making small talk into the wee hours =). Both Kym and I thank everyone involved for all their help and everyone for coming!
The following weekend was a long weekend and we decided to pack the camper up and take Jodie, Al, Al’s sister
Nana Von
Busselton and the kids to Wedge Island for a beach camping trip. It took longer than expected to arrive and typical WA style the southwester was howling as we found a campsite verging on dusk. We awoke to milder weather but with hundreds of uninvited guests - bees! They were after our water, and after we moved water bowls, and set smoke coils up were allowed to enjoy the day. There was swimming, some surfing, fishing and driving on the beach and a great weekend was had by all, although waking early on Monday morning to another sand blizzard meant we had to pack down in double time!
Over the next couple of weeks we spent time with Andrea, played golf with Jos and Wendy, made visits to my Dad, Mum and Nana Kagi. We had lunch with ‘Tash and Paul and their new boy Ricky and we spent the last Sat night in Perth at my sister Beth’s place with my brother Chris and a surprise visit from Aunty Inese, Uncle Dave and Cousin Stu! We had a magnificent seafood BBQ accompanied by some delectable cocktails and a great night was had by all.
We really enjoyed catching up with
everyone in Perth, as family and friends are what we miss the most living on the east coast.
Tuesday we shift to my friend Stewarts house to make preparations for our trip to Coral Bay!
