Friday 25 May 2007 (Happy Birthday Jay)
Well here we are driving along and I’ve figured out what my ‘hobby’ is going to be…………you guessed it the travel blog!!!! We’ve officially been on the road for 7 days and finally slept in our caravan for the first time last night - and it wasn’t too bad. Kids took a little bit to get to sleep but they were well and truly gone by 9pm (and Matt and I were about half an hour or one beer after them). Only one wake up from Ethan during the night and then awake at 6.30am - we still didn’t manage to get out of South West Rocks until 12pm - how is it that there is so much to do????
As most of you would know, we left Canberra and headed to Mollymook to drop all of our belongings to Matt’s parents house. From there we headed to Waitara, Sydney to catch up with Callum and Jules and Miss Abigail and to see their gorgeous new house. Of course we caught up with the Sydney crew as well, always good to see Joanie, Jax and Marky Mark as well as Aunty
Shell.
From Sydney we had a short trip into Newcastle (a day early mind you to the surprise of Matt’s cousin Jules) where we hung out for a couple of days, drank some wine ate some prawns - you know roughed it a little Thursday had us heading to South West Rocks for our first bit of adventure for the trip - and discovering just how much time it’s going to take us to set up each time!! Lets just say Bron’s got a little learning to do (so has Lily for that matter she asked me where our bathroom was this morning????)
There have been some hiccups (but no HUGE hissy fits from Bron yet…..Matt may have something else to say about that but that’s why Bron is doing the blog and not Matt!!!!), The weather has been nice to us, we have been to Minnie Waters where we experienced first hand how self sufficient we can be - much to Matt’s delight as he watched Australia V Wales on Saturday night out in the bush. We drove on the beach at Minnie Waters and Matt tried to have a quick fish - no luck but
had fun trying. Ethan enjoyed his sandwich (literally eating sand we have a great video of him crunching his vegemite sandwich and dipping it in the sand and then eating more!!).

Battery died on the lap top so it’s been a couple of days since I last wrote. We have since caught up with Jamie and Tamisin (Julie’s brother and his wife, explaining to Lily that it was Tommy and Matty’s Uncle - she’s pretty good at putting all the pieces together) and had dinner with my Aunty Trudy and Uncle Allen (Grandma’s sister as Lily likes to call Trudy). Had a nice relaxing time in Ballina and of course it was all too short. We would love to spend a couple of more days in each place but unfortunately we must keep going.
You should all start getting postcards soon; Lily has the job of deciding who we send them to. Lily has been looking at her photo albums and asking lots of questions about everyone. Lily has officially learnt how to ride her bike and is very proud of herself. She has taken to visiting all the grey nomads in their caravans or motor homes whether they are ready for her visit or not!! She met a lovely lady named Joyce and proceeded to ask everyone she came across what their name was - when they asked her what her name is her standard reply is Lily Grace Pike.
All in all we are having a good time, we are getting better at setting up and packing up (although Bron’s not good under pressure and when all the oldies are staring at you when you are guiding the car and caravan into a site it all gets a little too much!!!) sooooo now I drive and Matt guides (well I do the last bit anyway ha ha).
Off to Caboolture tonight to stay with Steve and Carol (Bloomfields old next door neighbour) and soon meeting up with Nanny and Poppy woo hoo (Matt’s parents)
Should be some good photo’s soon - Lily has been busily snapping away on her new camera - she’s quite the photographer (can’t you just hear her ‘you’re gorgeous Ethan smile!)
