the underwater garden at Coral Bay
30-08-13

Sadly this morning we had to leave Cape Range NP, I really could have stayed here another week, however, time was against us and we really had to start making our way south today if we were going to give ourselves any chance of seeing everything else we had on our list!

We also said goodbye to the lovely families we had become friends with during our travels. This was also sad, although we do hope to meet up again on the road somewhere prior to the final goodbye on our travels. This won’t be goodbye forever though; we will be catching up with them all somewhere sometime in the future. Thanks to the Woods, Scheffers and Harvey families for sharing some amazing experiences with us.

Our plans were not to stay in Coral Bay, but simply come in and have a little look and move on, but the more we thought about it, the more it made sense to stay a night, catch up on some washing, and have a really good shower and wash my hair that had not been washed for 5 days, and each day had been dipped in salt water. more of the garden

The beach here looked so inviting there was no way I was leaving this beautiful little place without having a little snorkel. So off we go to the beach, and who should we run into but the Harvey family, who left us from Cape Range NP yesterday, it was so nice to see them again so soon.

Well, not long into the snorkel, it is clear to see why this place is named Coral Bay, the coral in the bay here is beautiful, and not a lot of color, but it’s like a big flower garden underwater. The fish here are a real treat as well, during our time in the water, a school of mixed fish, there would have been around 100 or more, were just like they were on a feeding frenzy, they would all swim along, and then dive into some coral, have a feed and move along to another bit of coral, I followed them for a while, just watching and listening, the noise they were making as they were feeding on the coral is amazing. It was now around 3.30pm and there is fish feeding from the shore line, so we went over to

a giant claim at Coral Bay
watch this, I’m not too sure what breed of fish these are, but they were not at all afraid to swim between your legs while they are waiting for someone to feed them, Our little hour or so on the beach was really worth it.

Washing all done, hair washed and feeling amazing, we are heading off to Point Quobba tomorrow, and that is a place not to miss for a great snorkel, so I am looking forward to that.
