While travelling through Africa I became increasingly curious how far we had travelled. Using Google Earth I roughly worked out the distance to be a staggering 47,500 km, roughly a 50:50 split between air and land. Many Individual journeys stood out: 630 arduous kilometers by train from Roma to Innsbruck, a nightmare as we were woken up every 30 minutes to have our tickets checked; 350km through the jungle from Kota Bharu to Jerantut taking nearly 12 hours, 4 hours longer than expected! The Overland journey from Dar E Salaam to Nairobi was around 2,400km a mere 500km more than travelling along the coast from Cape Town to Durban (1,990km).
