30th Birthday
Birthday Cake The big 30 and everything after.
Hello there blog fans! Wow it’s really been a while since i tapped out a few too many lines to you people, so what better way than to fill you in on my birthday celebrations. As some of you may know i was not thrilled that was about to turn 30. I had so much fun in my 20’s i was scared that i would start craving comfortable shoes, beige & ovaltine by February 4th. My 20’s were a blast, i moved out of home and lived with a guy for the first time, got rid of him and upgraded for my best friend Kate. I can safely say that 2 years with living with Kate included some of the funniest and craziest times of my life. Mark and i met pretended we were friends for 18 months we finally got it together, bought a house, domesticated bliss with two cats and got married. Did you ever know that after that we sold all we had and left for Australia unsure if we would have a visa within the year?? See good times.
Mark had been very good at avoiding my upcoming birthday knowing how
sensitive i was about it, as the day grew nearer i was determined not to freak out about it and enjoy it. We decided to plan a weekend away with the few friends we still have at The Ozi Inn to the wine region of Western Australia Margaret River. Mark and i had been here before on our little jaunt in the winter but this time there would be many more of us. To cut a long story short we rented a giant shed for the weekend. It consisted of 24 beds a fully equipped kitchen, 2 huge bathrooms, a massive lounge and dining area, pool table and table tennis all situated within a venison paddock. After many discussions we all agreed it was the place to go and the plan was set for Feb 4th. My actual birthday itself was something else altogether. Mark had placed posters on the wall advertising a social gathering at the hostel to ‘say goodbye to my 20’s’, i let that one slide! I woke up in the morning to breakfast in bed, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, wholemeal toast even a wedge of lemon and black pepper! I was one happy lady. Shower change
Winery Tour
I Like Wine! and downstairs to balloons, banners and lots of congratulating. We decided to go for a walk to the park so i could open up my cards and pressies, Mark gave me a large brown envelope first, inside was a certificate of adoption, some pictures and a letter detailing how our new family member had come to be adopted by us her name is Michelle and she is a 2 year old Orang-utan. I love monkeys so naturally i was thrilled. I then had some beautifully gift wrapped boxes to open which contained Swarovski jewellery, i was thrilled, Mark proceeded to pull out a bottle of Bollinger and another large brown envelope with Top Secret written on it. I was concerned that maybe Mark had adopted a whole tribe to go along with the Orangutan for a brief second but it was the best gift i have ever had, a two month tour of South East Asia.
The plan:
1 Week in Bali we heart Bali so can not wait to go back
2 weeks in Thailand, here we will go to Tiger Temple and feed, play and interact with cub and adult tigers. Also, Elephant rides, Koh Samui , reclining
Wine Tour
Wine Tasting! Buddha you name it we will do it!
6 nights in Singapore, visiting our friends Liz & Russ
2 weeks in Vietnam more sightseeing
1 Week in Borneo where Mark and i will visit Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary where Marie lives before we head to Kuala Lumpar and back to Perth.
As you can imagine Mark and i are so excited about our trip, i wanted to tell everyone but Mark reminded me that we would have to keep it top ourselves for now as we don’t want the Hostel owner to find out just yet in case he kicks us out. It’s been driving me mad i just want to burst and tell everyone but i can’t so Mark and i have secret chats and get excited together.
So we deaprt on 12th May for our trip, so look forward to an actual travel blogs from Asia for the next couple of months!

Hi! Sorry, about missing out on your leaving party this week. Was kind of busy! ;). Anyway.. first of all congrats on the new apartment. Must feel good to finally have a home for yourself! And I'm assuming you are on your way now to Asia? I wish you all the best of luck, happiness and joy on your travels. xx Marije ps: I was looking to give you some good traveling advice, but since you're experienced travelers, this is the best I could think off: ...If they tell you to put your head between your knees on crash landings. You think you're going to kiss your ass good-bye...
