Aug-sep
Ok so we ended up working at Parry Creek Farm until the end of August. It was a good time and we learnt a lot! Tyler is now a good cook and I know how to make cappuccinos and flat whites...and also how to scrub bathrooms-fun lol.. I also have the privilege of cleaning all the toilets and showers, and moping the floors. Wow I haven’t moped a floor in...well I think ever! I’m all about the Swifter-sweeper baby haha. They have also been trying to teach me how to waitress, the first night I spilt a beer all over a table, and a lady's arm. Second night I broke a glass, and forgot to tell the chef no bacon on a pasta order, so he had to redo it. He was mad and I cried...yah in front of the whole kitchen crew. But the third night, no mistakes, well no big ones anyhow. Cleaning the cabins one day I pulled out the bed to make it and found a huge Tarantula on the wall! I freaked out!!! At first i was going to run and get someone but the cabins are far away from everyone so the spider
could have moved then hid somewhere elce. So i grabed the ant killer spray and sprayed the crap out of the spider! lol I was still pretty scared when I told my boss about it he looked sad and said "poor fella...is he daed?" umm yah it was a huge tarantula in a cabin you rent out to people, yes i killed it! Then Marg came out and told me the spiders name was George. Wtf? LOL! So confused, guess i wasnt supposed to kill spiders when i find them in the cabins but...it could have killed me...right? Next time i will know better. Another day cleaning cabins I found a baby goannna in a cubbard!! Scared the crap out of me but he got out safe. Tyler did camp kitchens himself twice that was awesome, he also learnt how to make Italian pasta Boscaolia as well as barramundi fish! YUM! The nights were long and late but lots was learnt. I now know why they say ‘run off your feet’ OMG long long day 7-9:30 with maybe a half-hour break! Wow need new shoes lol. Working hard made the days go by fast, and staying at the farm was
nice because we couldn’t sped our money. Worked with some great ppl and learnt a lot about Ozzie culture in the North West. Hottest I have ever been in my life, really not used to the heat, we now know how the heat can make you crazzy! Over plus 40 is wayy too hot for us Canadians! Tyler and I have a new appreciation for wine and food, and how they can taste matched together-YUM! We got to camp out in the bush on our day off which was nice. The sounds of the birds and the billabong were great. Spent my Birthday here which was crappy to be scrubbing shitters on my special day. But everyone knew it was my bday and they had a surprise cake at the end of supper service for me! Yah I love cake!!! Tyler shaved his 3 month old beard at parry creek and no one could recognize him after! Our boss thought he was a customer and had to do a triple take before he knew what was going on lol! The beard had to go b/c it was so hot, you can barley handle it. We saved a lot of money
working but didn’t make as much as we were wanting to. When we gave our notice Ty was counting down the days and I was counting down the toilets I had left to clean lol! On the second last day a bush fire was started in the national park right beside Parry creek. It was started purposely, how sad! The guys had to rush out right before supper service to defend parry creek land. There were lots of people at the park who had no idea what was going on. It was quite surreal to be serving pizza and fish&chips to people while all the men were off in the rhinos and quads trying to stop the bush fire from taking us out. Crazy! Tyler took me out after they diverted the fire away from the property, very wild to see! Amazing how things like this happen, very cool to see but sad how much got ruined. Last day ken gave us some lagzagna for the road as well as some lamb shanks!!!! YUM! Thanks Ken!! Hit the road April 25th up to Darwin. It is so hot that we can only drive in the mornings until 11am! We stopped
in Katherine and had to sit in the pool the hole day at our park because too hot to do anything else. Got to Darwin the next day and it is off the ocean so it was a little bit cooler. We got flyers printed to sell Flip!!!!!!! Put him for sale online as well as put him in the paper. Listed him for $4500 thinking ppl would lowball us and we were hoping for $3000. The second day we showed it to 2 ppl. The second group said they would take it but couldn’t get $ until a few days later. Full price!!!!!! AWESOME!!! So we hung out in Darwin for a few more days and eventually got the cash 5 days later.
