Reception Session
Nico & Si jamming at reception. I'm sorry, I know it's been a long time, but just saving you from uneventful entries...
So I'm still in Australia, still in Fremantle (near Perth) getting pretty cozy. The life here is very laidback and the hostel life and guests are quite the "family" since the majority of us here are longterm tenants. Our days consist of waking up (at some point) and run for the front desk to see if there are any odd jobs for the day in the area...mostly labouring, gardening, cleaning.. the jobs others don't really want to do, but whatever, it's cash-in-hand, so it's good. So far I have gardened on those jobs as the others usually want guys ... bah! Anyway, I've picked up some work finally. I actually clean the hostel on the weekends... what a job that is! I mean it's not hard but long. Plus all the lads who labour here go on the piss as soon as work is over on Friday so you get quite the cleanup to do on the weekends..especially when I wake up at 7am to start my cleaning and much to my surprise (well not really) they are all still up on case of beer
number... 6 or so.... I've never seen so many empty beer bottles in my life! Ah the English & Irish! And I thought us Canadians could drink... LOL!!! Not even close my friends. Let's put it this way.. I had worked 11 hours on Saturday and hadn't had a weekend off for 3 weeks or so, so I decided I'd take Sunday off from cleaning and have a night myself of fun. So I recruited a friend Riccardo to replace me. Much to his surprise in the morning, on his first day, goes into the kitchen and there's a 4 lads who had built a pyramid with anything and everything they could find in the common room. Well under all the beanbags, couches, tables, chairs, candy machine, brooms, cushions stacked about 15 feet high, was this poor guy who had passed out on the couch. Well whille they did this, which took them about an hour and a half, he finally woke up in complete shock and freaked out. I wasn't up to see this, but thanks to Big Brother (the security cams) I got to watch in fast forward... the best laugh anyone could ever have. So this is

OFS Courtyard Party pretty much what happens here on the weekends. And when it's a full house there are about 95 guests... so it's an interesting cleanup...
I also started working at the Indian restaurant which the hostel owns, on some occasions to fill-in if someone calls in sick. And today I've started my full-time job at Pasta Addiction, a small restaurant with great people to work with. They're closed on weekends so that's great! I could still keep my cleaning job. So now, after not working for 6 months, I'm working 7 days a week... oh well, when you need money, you deal with it.
I've met some great people here, and will be travelling Western Australia then heading Darwin with them. We have 2 vans (VW style). It'll be, Pam (the French girl), Nico (French guy), Johan (Swedish), Riccardo (Italian), Felix (German) & Ole (German). It'll be a great time that's for sure as they are such fantastic people. Riccardo, Felix & Ole leave Wednesday, but the rest of us will be leaving in a few weeks to meet up with them in Broome, where hopefully we'll get some jobs on the pearling boats for a few weeks to make

Left: Steve, Andy, Alex, Isa. Right: Roy, Maxi, Andrew, Si. some money, if not we'll hit the fruit picking. Then after we'll be heading North to Darwin. Find more work there then who knows what'll happen from there. I'm hoping to find someone to travel with to head down the east coast, then some central, and head back South. I'm planning to be back here in Fremantle (Perth) around Christmas time and probably stay here 'til I'm ready to head home or wherever. It's said to be one of the best places to stay in Australia, and I can see why. It's so nice adn laidback. There's the famous Cappucino Street where it's cafe after cafe. The architecture here is beautiful, sorta european, portugese style. No highrises. markets, harbours, beaches, micro-breweries, etc. Many people who come here just don't leave. You can easily find sponsorships for residencies here as Perth is just starting to grow and the jobs, well, there's plenty. So something maybe to consider at the end of my visa here.... hmmm. I can' definitely see myself live in this country... we'll see.
Yesterday was a nice sunny day (25 degrees, yeah yeah I know, it's warmer at home, but don't forget this is winter!), so a

Roy & I ... I don't remember what was so funny. Roy is known as the cool "father" here... dozen of us head out to Cottesloe beach about 15 min train ride from here and spent the afternoon there playing football (soccer), swimming, and just lounging around talking, then stayed for the beautiful sunset. Came back here then went out for some great Fish & Chips at the harbour. That's pretty much what we do here. Or we have our resident Chef, Manu (from France), who cooked us one night a fabulous meal for 15 and had about 25 bottles or wine with it. Good times I tell ya. This place sucks you in real quick, so if ever you come here and don't want to be staying in one place too long... don't stay more than a few nights, or you're in for the long haul... ;o)
Well other than that not much else is happening, well not to write about really. A lot of stories to tell, but just not enough room to write it. I still have yet to get my camera fixed, but I'll be getting some pics from friends here to upload. Hopefully I'll have mine soon... I've already spent 175$ to fix it, for it to break 2 days later again. The
guy better not charge me again...
Ok well, that's it for now. Hope you are all doing well.
'Til next time!
Ciao!

So funny!
It's funny to hear your stories and your considerations of calling a new place "home"...... It seems like just yesterday you were fearing leaving Canada...... The question is... will you ever come back? Miss you.
