Sunday 7-3-10 It was drizzling rain when we got up & overcast. We packed up & handed in our gate pass & Louise & Bruce said that they would have a position for me , but not Dennis at the moment. We said we would keep in touch with them as they said it got busy at Christmas time. On our way again to probably Esperance today , we took a short cut to the main highway & wouldn’t you know it we got a flat tyre on the car. At first we could not see it, Den checked all the tyre’s, including the van as we could smell rubber & the tyre was making a clunking sound. We thought we may have done a bearing & we decided to limp to the next town, But we started off again & the noise was still there, so we got out & the rear drivers side tyre had picked up a big bit of steel & was sticking out of the tread & it had not actually pierced the tyre , When we stopped again we could see it. So our first flat in nearly 30 thousand KM not bad. We changed
it then headed off again . We stopped at Jerramungup for a cuppa & while we were there about 75 Ulysses Bikers pulled up for petrol, all a nice bunch of people. One Biker had a motto on the back of his coat, Ulysses club , Growing Old Disgracefully. While I was in the loo the ladies were grumbling about how long it took to get out of there leathers to go to the toilet. There were bikes from QLD, Vic & NSW, nearly all of them had camping trailers on the back of there bikes & nearly all had grey hair. Good on them. We took off from the garage & then we heard a clunk & dragging sound, we pulled over & one of the stabiliser bars had come off, it does not seem to be our day, but Den is very calm & did not loose his calm once. When we took off we passed 220 of motor bikes going the other way towards Albany. We got to Ravensthorpe & Den gave up counting, there must have been another 75 at the garage there. We got fuel ($1.40 & Gas was $1.07 expensive) . We turned off
to go into Hopetoun to have a look as I have just read a book about the town when the nickel mine started up. It was a quaint small town on the water & there was a big jetty there. We pulled up & had a late lunch & it was nice. Off again, we went back to Ravensthorpe & continued down the highway towards Esperance , we decided to stay at Quagi Beach camp sites. No 60 in the Camps book 74 km from Esperance for a few days. Just before the turn off guess what !!!! things come in three’s, a Ute overtook us & threw up a stone & we got a big stone chip in the windscreen AHHHHH!!! Not our day. At Quagi Beach there are bays for your van, no power but Generators allowed, a pit toilet (does not smell) & cold showers & a beautiful Beach & $2 per person a night - expensive eh!!!!. It was late when we got in , so we set up & had tea. It had been drizzling on & off all day & it rained over night. We did about 480 km today, the temp would have
been about 20 deg. Monday 8-3-10 I woke up after hearing rain overnight to sunshine, it was great. After washing up we went for a nice long walk on the beach, we let the girls off & they just loved it. They were in & out of the water & Jessie only chased one seagull & then came straight back. Annie picked up a cuttlefish in her mouth & buried it & dug it up & then carried it in her mouth along the beach. WE then climbed up a sand bank & all walked back along the track. We were all hurting (except Dennis) by the time we got back. Den & I sat reading & sunbaking (my tan is disappearing) till lunchtime. After lunch Den & I went for a swim at the beach - it was cold but refreshing. We walked back to camp & I went & had a cold shower (in my swimmers) as the shower is outside the toilet block with no sides, & washed my hair Brrrrrr. I then caught up with my diary & Den read a book, the weather had just started to change & it started to spit. We had
tea & watched TV. Tuesday 9-3-10 Happy Anniversary Ron & Lorraine !!! Well a lazy day today, we did some washing, & did a few odd jobs, it rained last night & is overcast. After lunch we went for a walk to the beach to give the girls a stretch. There was a poor guy bogged in one of the camp spots, we offered to get him out but he had a mate to help. We went for a walk on the beach & when we got back they were just getting him out. I went back to the van to have a rest as my back was playing up & Den stayed to help. They got them moved & they had to stay here as the had mechanical problems. Later on Den went to give them our left over water. We are going to Esperance tomorrow for a couple of days to check it out & then to Kalgoorlie. We packed up a few things & had tea, Den caught up with the banking & I caught up with the diary & photos. It has been very windy & cool today about 19 deg.
