For those that don't already know, MAD stands for Mum And Dad, although the customary use of the word could also apply here. For me, having MAD come out to Australia to see me created a mixture of emotions. having been away for 10 and a half months, the longest i have ever been away, i was very excited to see them again and, unlike the last time i went to New Zealand back in 2003, i was keen to share part of my experiences with them. It was a shame that they couldnt come up to the station and see that side of my travels, but we still had an amazing time together. Despite being 22 years old, i still count being "away from home" as being the time since i last saw my parents, ... read more

Hi everyone. Here we are on Monday night slowly but surely recouperating from the v8's at Barbagallo over the weekend. Yesterday (Sunday) was definately the most adventurous day we've had so far. We did the responsible thing and caught a cab to the track (which is kinda in the middle of a forestry area) but apparently Western Australia encourages drink driving. Cabs were not allowed any where near the track until 7pm and the last race finished hours before that. We had no choice but to wander which we did and some how ended up over in the corporate area for an officials banquet with an open bar. we had our deck chairs on our shoulders and cooler bags in hands but no one seeemed to mind having us there. Bit slow going today but were ... read more

Hello People!! Here we are again, actually not far from where we last left you. It would seem we are only about 130km from where we did the last blog two weeks ago! In fact we have slowed down considerably from the first weeks of our trip. Firstly we had actually planned to treck fairly fast as far as Adelaide, partly as we had done this route before, but also because it is not far from Melbourne and easy to do on a short trip. Anyway then we hit the Nullabor and really there is not too much to stop for as you’ve guessed from previous blogs. So basically in the first two weeks of the trip we traveled over 5,00km and in the last 5 weeks we have done about 1,000km! We had roughly worked ... read more

Day 222 (02.11.07) We had borrowed some bikes from our hostel today to explore Bunbury (and possibly a bit further afield). After stocking up on breakfast and packing some food for lunch we went to our first stop of the day - the Dolphin Discovery Centre. Bunbury is a lovely little town which (like most towns in OZ) sits on the coast with amazing sweeping beach views wherever you look, however this is not the main reason for a visit here. The bay which joins Bunbury to the Indian Ocean (Koombana Bay) is home to up to 200 bottlenose dolphins and along with the Dolphin research centre is an area where the dolphins regularly visit - just to say hello! As these are 100% wild animals it can be a bit hit and miss as to ... read more

I cant remember the last entry, but think it was around coral bay just after we broke down, wchi is ironic....but we'll come on to that. Since coral bay, we have ventured south through monkey mia and down to perth arriving well ahead of schedule. We had a great night out at The Deen, dancing to reggae music and falling in love with african girls...i need to go to africa. We decided to do a little loop out to Hyden, wave rock, and down through Denmark to Augusta, Maragaret River and back up to Perth. The sights along the way have been beautiful, some of the most picturesque scenery i have ever seen....along with the wine, honey, cheese, toffee and ice cream tasting i had a great few days. Once we arrivedin Augusta we settled for ... read more
