So this is now my 4th week working at the cafe and it is killing me. I have decent hours and seem to have regular 8am - 2.30pm shifts Monday to Friday. I am permanently stuck on the front desk dealing with all the orders and the takeaway counter but I am so sick of the bloody Aussies looking at me like I am Chinese and as if they don't understand me and I am talking a foreign language cos I have a different accent, some of them are so ignorant and impatient as well and then I get the same "oh, your from England" or they think I am Irish a lot of the time!!! I have to tell them all about my plans and where I have been and get their recommendations blah blah blah, this is several times a day and when there is a big queue very very annoying!! I have just had the weekend off though and I am working hard on my suntan, apart from that I haven't anything exciting to tell you all (apart from A&E...more about that later). I am not going out or spending any money on shopping but my money is
disappearing very fast. Been to see a couple of films here, I have seen my first Harry Potter Film and recently watched Johnny Depp in Public Enemy (highly recommended).
We also went to the Broome Cup at the races last week as Sarah was leaving for Asia and that was our treat, that's about it really. Oh and I managed to steal a dress that she was putting in the bin, quite handy when you have a budget!!! I also got lots of other goodies including CD's, envelopes????, an East Coast guide and nail polish remover. I will certainly come home having learnt the value of money I can tell you, I hate this budgeting shit. I now use the tiniest amount and shampoo and conditioner so I don;t have to buy any and wash only once a week to save on shower gel (joking.....seriously)!!!The racecourse was pretty small but then again Broome is tiny so can't expect Haydock or Aintree, didn't win anyway!!!!
Th hostel here in Broome is really nice, it is only 1 of about 4 in Broome and the other accommodation is really expensive resort style or camp sites and as I don't have a tent
it's the KK all the way (Kimberley Klub). It is a really nice and does have some private rooms. The pool is a tad too small though and I have to sunbathe on the Volleyball court after 2pm as the sun is shaded by the bar area next to the pool. I keep getting bitten though by the bloody sand flies as they are tiny and you can't see them and then you get loads of red little spots, apparently they don't bite they wee on you, nice..... Some peoples come out horrible and blistered, Sarah got attacked just before she left. The kitchen here is a nightmare though to cook in. It is manic and although it is a big kitchen when EVERYONE is cooking their dinner at the same time and there are no pans or hobs left it is quite stressful. Then there is Team ASIA in there all the time. There are loads and loads of Asians who spend all day in the kitchen and is a big social activity for them cos you never see them anywhere else!!! They marinate just about anything and start at Breakfast time for the evening meal. maybe it's called
Hayley
In Broome for about 2 weeks, didn't even see the town. Just the beach and the 2 bars / clubs!!! preparation and organisation but then again I wouldn't know anything about those things would I!!!! Then they take all the bloody cooking utensils and sit outside and eat out of the pans instead of using there bowls and plates like everybody else so then no one has anything to cook with!
The hostel have a couple of themed nights including a quiz night (which we are rubbish at) and the other week we had a Round The World Themed night where we had to dress up. Some people really made an effort but we dressed up for free in our bed sheets!!! That was a good night and even the staff dressed up too. Its a shame though as it is licensed premises and you are not allowed to bring alcohol on the premises, which means you have to buy from the bar which works out quite expensive at $6 a drink although I do have a sneaky few bottles of wine in my locker which I put in my mug secretly, sssshhhhh.
I just have all the empty bottles to get rid of now.....
I am planning to work another 2 weeks here in Broome and then leave mid
August and head for Darwin, hopefully stopping off at a small outback town of Kannanura on the way. Broome is tiny and is a real idyllic Australian sleepy place where a lot of Australians come for a holiday. There is not a lot to do here apart from the beach. There seems to be a lot of people offering lifts so hopefully there will be something around when I am leaving. I haven't told work yet as I said I was going to be around for 3 mths to get the job, never mind, I bet they're used to it! I have done them a favour and got another girl in the hostel a job so I don't feel too bad. I am hoping to have saved around $2000 aussi dollars by the time I leave which I am then going to use for my Asia Trip. Joe who I met in Perth is in Asia now for 2 mths so I am going to out and travel round Malaysia, Cambodia and Laos for 1 moth in September and I really want to go to the Singapore Grand Prix night race at the end of September, gotta convince Joe to
Round The World Night
Togas!!! (bed sheets) come with me though!!! He is then going to China early October to learn Kung Fu and other martial arts at a monastery for 2 months!. I want to got Asia now rather than on my way home in case I don't find anyone to go with. I really don't fancy it on my own. So I am really looking forward to that and the accommodation is really cheap and some place 3 -7 $USD per night. Then the plan is to fly back to Darwin to fly to Cairns and then travel down the East Coast. It seems so weird that by the time I get back from Asia it will be October and I will have been away 5 mths!!!! Anyway I will tell you about the ear plugs.....
I have been wearing ear plugs since I arrived in Broome. I have been wearing some silicone ones that you can mould like plasticine and stick in your ear. They are very good and have meant I have slept quite well and not been kept awake by the numerous snorers we have in the hostel. The rooms are all partitioned off into separate dorms but the walls don't go
to the roof so even though you maybe in a 6 bed dorm you are really in a room with 30-40 other people and it does get quite noisy, especially when there are a lot of trips that leave at like 6am so people are up really early and a lot of people are working so alarms are going off all the time. Anyway I had been wearing these ear plugs all the time and I woke up yesterday and pulled it out as I was ready to get up and go the beach when I realised I had only half of it in my hand and the other half loved my ear so much it has decided to lodge itself there, so I was now deaf in my left ear, great!!! Good job it was my day off or there would of been some problems with the orders at work!!! I went to the hospital but it was a 5 hour wait. So it was only 10 am so I came away after she said the wait may be less later in the day. So while the sun is shining I thought I would sunbathe and go again a
bit later. I went about 7pm and got seen straight away, it took ages - about 50-mins to get the bugger out but after a lot of syringing and vacuuming I can finally hear again. Apparently I have very small ear canals and should be careful with earplugs in future!!!! So I slept terrible last night and was up and down as the bloody snoring kept me awake. Got some others today so I am praying they work. Oh the fun of travelling.....xxxx

The fun you can have with a ear plug!
Hi Jane, You must of just wrote this blog as i was emailing with regards the phone cost - cause it wasn't on when i emailed on monday! So only just read today - Wednesday!!! The photos are really, really good - i am very impressed! In my specialist Tom Cruise opinion though i do believe the chinese girl to be so wrong - the man claimed looks nothing like my man tom cruise. Please make all aware!!! With regards the phone cost. Good news - no need to kill myself. It cost just £2.86 for i think it was 56 minutes! So very cheap - i'll pass it on to Lou ball and see if she wants to try it. I've also left a message with your dad on his phone (house phone) saying that it did only cost 5p a minute - so he may give you a bell this week! I can call on a weekly basis now. I'm not hard up for £2 and it saves me trying to think of everything to type - so i'll call you Monday after i've been to the Doctors, about the skin problem i was telling you about!!!!! With regards you. I think moving on is best - especially as there dosn't seem much going on other than work! You'll end up getting fed up if it's getting up your nose now. So keep me updated on how Darwin is before you zip off to Asia - P.S please be careful in asia i don't want some forign man buying you for £3 or something - you know what they are like in these forign countries they buy and sell in camels and you can't understand a word of what they are saying - so remember never nod your head to anything!!!!!! Back home, nothing exciting has happened since Monday. Linda rang last night - shes having a ding dong with the neighbours. They have apparently rang brian saying she was making loads of noise over the weekend. But i don't think it was her! I think it was next door - Enid was having a rave party!!! Only joking, other next door!! Louise has just been working. I've not spoken to Emma for weeks? Not sure were she has disappeared to???? And me - working as usual!!!! So nothing to report!!!! You take care. If having a lager - have one for me!!!! Speak to you next week. Deb xxxxxxxxx
