We seem to have gotten ourselves into a real routine here. We’ve been parked in Broome for so long now that this is no longer a trip; it’s turned into a static beach holiday. We think we’ve decided to go home in a few days, so we can’t even vary the routine by spending the morning trawling through Booking.com and flight schedules... well not usefully anyway. We have lunch by the pool and I watch the football finals on the TV. I could be doing this at home, although that mightn’t be quite as much fun; it’d be cold for starters.
On the off chance that he haven't quite yet convinced ourselves that we've got into a routine here, we again head off for our now customary sunset stroll along the beach. Issy thinks I might get some more interesting shots of the waves if I put my camera on the sand right in front of them as they're coming in. I don't think salt water and cameras are a particularly good mix, so now I just need to remember to lift it up again before it gets swamped. I didn’t bring my camera with me on last evening's stroll,
so unlike my beloved I missed out on taking happy snaps of the two capsicums we found lying in the shallows. Despite our best efforts we can't seem to find any again tonight. We’re further along the beach away from the crowd so whilst this bit of the beach is lacking in vegetables, there do at least seem to be more crabs making interesting patterns in the sand as they re-dig their holes. I don’t think crabs like people.
We decide to lash out and vary the routine totally by eating at the restaurant next door to the Indian establishment in Chinatown that we’ve eaten at for the last two nights. Well that was the plan, until we pull up outside to see that it’s closed. Perhaps it’s just as well; what sort of restaurant doesn’t open on Saturday night. So it’s back to the Indian restaurant again. We hope the staff might be different so they don’t think we’re stalking them, but the manager welcomes us back again, with strong emphasis on the word "again". Issy’s wine seems to have taken good effect. She decides it might be fun to flick the rice she’s spilt all over the
table up into my face. I wonder how welcome we’ll be if we come here again…
We pass Diver's Tavern on the way home. It looks very crowded - people hanging out the doors, and cars crammed into every available square millimetre of space within cooee. We then remember that the heats of the Miss Cable Beach Competition are on here tonight. I'm a bit worried about Issy. She suggested earlier that we should walk along the beach to the clothing optional section and join them in a naked frolic in the surf. Now she says she's disappointed that she forgot to register for Miss Cable Beach. I sincerely hope that's the wine talking.
