Our Cabin
Stormy skies and a lovely rainbow. Hiya everyone.
Good decision to stay the night since there was lightning and thunder starting up as we headed in. The cabins we stayed at were old but ok. The bed was comfy so that's always a good thing! We decided that we wouldn't stay there another night so packed up and headed into town for a look around.
Portland is considered "Victoria's Birthplace" because in 1834 Victoria's first permanent European settlement was established. We had a bit of a drive around town and then went to the station because the tram was starting at 10am. It's an hour trip around town and you can get off at stops on the way. The sun had come out and the rain stopped so that was good, but it was still a bit windy. We got off at the WWII Memorial to have a look around. This building used to be the water tower that supplied the town with all their water. It . In 1995 they received funding to turn it into the memorial. The steps and platforms had to be craned in because they couldn't fit them in through the door. There is 124 steps and 5 platforms. On
each platform there are newspaper articles, stories, advertising, clothes and letters from each year of the war from 1939 to 1945. It was so interesting and took us a fair while to climb the stairs, and not from exhaustion either! Up the top, and the reward was the view. It has 360 degree views and lucky for us it was a clear day. We caught the tram back to the station and had a look around the model railway museum.
After getting some lunch and eating down at the beach we headed off to Hamilton with hopes of finding somewhere to stay for the night. WRONG.. lol.. the hotels and caravan parks were a rip off so we kept on driving. We drove to Dunkeld and found a lovely little place with self contained cabins... looked sooo nice.. and at $175 a night it should of been to. So back into the car and off we went. We went down a lovely little country road and saw some great scenery and headed to Mortlake for the night. We stayed in a lovely little room with the best shower I've had so far! lol
Gday All
Well after
Portland Cable Tram Co.
This is our tram. Not a cable tram but a diesel one instead. They are called cable trams because they use the old cable ones but convert them to diesel. waking up and messaging my little sister, Toni, to meet later for coffee we headed off to Werribee where we had all intentions of going to Werribee Open range Zoo but after waiting for Toni we decided to nip around and say hello to my niece Jane at her tattoo parlour, Alive Art, where we booked in for Wednesday to get some work done.
We then jumped back in the car and went to visit with my oldest sister, Rhonda and her husband, Lee which we always enjoy.
After leaving there we drove down to Chelsea Heights to the South East Holiday Village (I actually used to live here) where we are staying for the next couple of nights at least. Hoping tomorrow we can go and visit with our new Great nephew Cooper George....oh and his mum and dad Jodi and John
So there will be plenty of pics Tomorrow...lol
Well not much else to write today so bye for now
