A change of plan at dinner (yes, another one) had us heading for either Mulwala or Yarrawonga today. Either way it meant we hadd 100kms to travel so we needed to be up early and away before both the heat and wind got up. We did pretty good getting on the road by about 7:10am. Rather than follow the main highway out of town we chose the scenic route around the river, only to notice after about a kilometer that river was flowing "the wrong way"! Oh dear, another slight directional lapse but at least it only cost us a couple of clicks. The riding in the morning air was perfect and the heat of the day was still hours away. Having completed our assignment at Werribee South Caravan Park we were ready for some R & R. We were keen to re-visit Bright, in the Alpine region of Victoria and to inspect the changes that have been implemented in the caravan park that we worked in 4 years ago. We set up camp at Oxley Recreation Reserve and soon had a “Happy Hour” invitation. On our approach to Bright the next day the sun was shining and the weather was warm. Our time in Werribee South had been far from what we expect for summer and it was lovely to feel warm again. (How long would it be before there were complaints about being too hot?) Murray Marathon 27th December-31st December, 2009 I have paddled in the Murray Marathon for years now but only as a relay team member. This year it was going to the be full distance in a K3. The K3 was purchased out of the trading post for about $150 several years ago. Bern, Elizabeth and I had every intention of taking on the Murray some time. In fact, it was after paddling the Hawkesbury Canoe Classic (111km overnight paddle) in about 2001 that we planned to paddle the whole Murray. Only it was after this race that paddling the whole Murray didn't seem like such a good idea for me!
