It seemed like it would never arrive, but here I am, under two weeks from an eagerly anticipated return to South Africa. It couldn't come soon enough, I'm in need of a holiday, to escape routine and this dreary Melbourne Winter.
It won't be the first time I've touched down on African soil. Two years ago today, I had just returned from my previous visit; an epic adventure for the FIFA 2010 World Cup. That trip had seen me attend 7 World Cup matches, head on Safari through South Africa, Botswana and Zambia, up to Victoria Falls. It was arguably the trip of a life-time, one I'll never forget. An event and trip that could possilby only be matched by the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 (which I'll do everything to attend).
Last time around in Africa, I was accompanied for the most part by Matt and Dave, and met some great people along the way. People I was greatful to meet, who all added to what was a memorable experience.
Photography and my Travel Blogs help me really keep those memories alive. They breathe life, emotion and colour to my memory of all these fantastic adeventures, especially on the basis that they were all recorded and documented at the time of the experience. Travel and experiencing as much as I can in life is a massive passion of mine, so naturally, I want to share that passion with those I care about and love. Travel Blogs, stories, and photos are a start, but can only do so much. This time around, it gives me great excitement to drag my girlfriend Natalie along for the ride! I won't be returning home to try to articulate what a great adventure it was, but have her along every step of the way. To see, smell, hear, feel and experience all that South Africa has to offer!
We will be flying out in the early hours of the morning, Friday the 27th of July. From Melbourne, to Sydney to Johannesburg. The next morning, we depart from our hotel on a 17 day Safari Tour, through Kruger, Swaziland, the Drakensberg, Durban, Hermanus, the South Coast, Stellenbosch, Cape Point finally finishing up in Cape Town, where we spend 6 nights on our own after the tour. For me, it's a great combination of reliving what I loved about Africa last time, and what seeing new things. I get to see Kruger, Blyde River Canyon, Cape Point, Cape Town and Stellenbosch again, and a whole lot of new things; Drakensberg (which I was teased about and largeley missed last time, see my previous blog), a new country in Swazliand and the South Coast. I'm hoping to see whales for the first time! Whilst there is no World Cup on this time around, we are in Africa for the duration of the 2012 Olympics in London, which will be the same time-zone as South Africa! So we'll definitely be watching that in our down time or relaxation time!
For Natalie, it's all new, and she's got lots to look forward to. For those interested, I'll be doing my best to Update this blog as time and oppertunity permits, with photos, journal entries and information about my adventures and whereabouts. I will share entries/links on Facebook also.
Bring it on! 😊
