We got to Melbourne at 2am in the morning and Jane was waiting for us at the airport, it was lovely to see a familiar face and know we were heading to a nice home and not another hotel. We got through customs really quickly we were actually surprised because we were prepared for lots of queues so it was nice to get straight out. When we got to the car we had the nice surprise of Marcia being there too!! It was great to see her, it had been 4 years since I'd seen them all. We got to their house, which beautiful! And headed straight to bed as we were shattered by this time. It was bliss waking up and being in a house being able to make our own breakfast and be able to eat cereal with proper milk lol. We spent the morning chatting away, Brad getting to know Marcia, Ken and Jane. The cricket was on TV too so Brad was in his element sat watching it with Ken chatting away. Our first day was a pretty chilled one mainly enjoying seeing the three of them again and Saturday me and Brad got tram cards and
headed into the city to explore a bit. We had a really nice day looking around the city and headed to Southbank for lunch we couldn't believe how much it reminded us of London restaurants and bars along the river front literally just like at home, it was a nice feeling to be in no country that felt familiar even though it was new to me!
So we decided to head to Tasmania as you can read from my other entry. It was an amazing dew days but it was nice to be back in Melbourne to see Marcia, Ken and Jane again and we also got to meet up with Alex and Matt!! They had arrived in Australia while we were in Tasmania so we hired a car and drove to see them in St Kilda. It was a great place, really funky with great bars, shops and restaurants, somewhere I think me and Brad said we could see ourselves staying (not for good though don't worry!) it was great to see Alex and Matt again too I had missed our little travelling family! We got to meet Alex's aunty and cousin too which was lovely. We spent
another day having a look around the shops getting some Christmas presents for everyone and a few bits for ourselves we wanted to be organised as we were heading on another road trip with Rob and Hay along the Great Ocean Road. We planned to do 2 nights but only did 1 as unfortunately the weather wasn't great, but I will tell you all on my other entry which you can read.
Once back from the Ocean Road it was Christmas Eve! Me and Brad went into the city and got another present for Marcia, Ken and Jane and then had a nice lunch in the sunshine. It was so strange to be sat in Christmas Eve in the sun just us 2, away from all our family and friends but it was nice to be sharing it with brad it's a Christmas we definitely won't forget as our first one together! It wasn't a typical Christmas Eve of being out drinking with friends, I think we were in bed by 10pm!! And Christmas Day was just as strange. It didn't feel like Christmas at all! We decided not to do presents for each other as well, we couldn't
justify it whilst travelling so decided to make next year even more special (yesssss!!!! Haha) we gave our presents to Marcia, Ken and Jane though and they got us presents too which we definitely didn't expect!! It made it that bit more like Christmas and mummy Sherms sent us Christmas cards that arrived Christmas Eve, perfect timing!! We spent the day at Marcia and Kens grandsons Matthew. Him and his wife Penny put on a lovely day for us, they had a beautiful home and it was great to see their 2 little girls enjoying the day, Father Christmas having visited them ;-). We even had a traditional roast in the day which we loved!!! And in the evening they did a BBQ with prawns and kebabs, heaven! So instead of 'pigs in blankets' they did prawns in blankets lol and yes guys they were delicious! It was a great day, strange but great and we got to Skype home which was even better. It was actually emotional seeing my Gran getting to talk to her good friend Marcia in face time they both had the biggest smiles on their faces and I think that was both mine and brads
best Christmas present seeing them so happy!
It was Boxing Day before we knew it and time to leave Melbourne. And our last road trip with Hay and Rob! We were driving to Sydney and passing through Canberra to visit a family friend of Hayley's. It was a pretty long day of driving to Canberra with lots more goodies and chatting, music and pod casts! Once we got there we had a relaxing evening with Hayley's Nan's friend who was putting us up, she had gone and bought us food so we ate and then all watched About A Boy together. We got up e next day and did the touristy stuff which we had to do, visiting Parliament House and went to a couple of view points, all a bit boring but must dos in the city's capital! By early afternoon we gave up, went to the supermarket got a feast if a picnic and went to an outdoor pool for the day! The weather was great and the picnic was even better! Once back at Marie's she had dinner for us again, we went for a walk after dinner around the lake by her house and went
back for another evening of watching a film. I flaked though and left everyone to watch Love Actually and headed to bed. We left early the next day and did the final stint to Sydney. It was great arriving there seeing the bridge and Opera House, we felt the excitement straight away and knew it was going to be fun there. Plus we had 2 nights and got to see Kerry, Dave, Margaret and Keith!!
So that's the end of our Melbourne adventure next is Sydney!!
